Interacting with Time
Happy Wednesday everyone!
I thought today would be a great day to start a discussion with you all about time! Not just how we tell it and what we use to tell time but how we interact with time.
As many of you know, I like most of us here love watches. not just any and every watch but I love what they can and should represent to me.
Watches (for me) tell a story. Some stories are longer than others, some change families some stay within the same family, but they all tell a story .
When I acquire another watch 80% of the time it is to commemorate an event that will constantly remind me of what the "story" is which got me here. Some acquisitions are based on the relationship with a retailer who knows my passion for the brand and specific history. Some are obviously left to me from a previous generation. The other 20% of my watches just hit me between the eyes and I couldn't stop myself.
This particular watch was left to my father who then left it to me from my Great Uncle.
I was fortunate enough to know him so it still has that connection for me as well. He bought this watch new in 1947. He was a doctor and came to America during the war as he was a Jew and fortunate enough to get out.
Once here in America as the story was told to me he was stripped of his lic. to practice and put in jail after being labeled a communist. (which he was not). After he was released he went on in life and lived in NYC. I was fortunate enough to spend holidays with him.
Before my father passed he looked at me and said I want YOU to have this watch as I know you will care for it as I have.
It is with this in mind that I share my "long" post with you all.
Watches for me are historical in so many ways and they are heirlooms. Some are just older than others. When I pick up my watch (any of them) I think about this. I also think about my relationship with time. As I wound this watch this morning I thought of my Uncle. My father and my children with a big smile. I slow down enough to enjoy the feeling. As I know my day will come where I am no longer the custodian, but my kids and grandkids will be.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this. As I am an intentional person. I want you all to know that I include each and every one of you when I think about Time and my relationship with it!!
Have a great Wednesday everyone!!
