Dad did a LOT of genealogical research - just found a document titled "And the widow get's her 'thirds'. Apparently, a woman only had rights to one third of her husband's property. Oh, but that was only the property owned at his time of death. She had NO rights to proceeds from anything he sold, even if the land came from her family.
The bibliography cites books about early Colonial America.
