Question for the business owners of the community...
Omar Question
What exactly are you looking for from The Video Dept? I've been struggling with that as I try to make my own thing and learn from what Omar and The Video Dept has built. I've probably watched every video on the channel at least 2x, and they've been incredibly informative. I just finished the most recent Content 2 Cash challenge, and it was helpful. However, one thing that I'm still trying to wrap my brain around as I move forward is: "What are you looking for and willing to pay for from The Video Dept or any similar service?"
For example, If I'm a - let's just use Barbershop Owner. I guess I want to use video to increase my visibility. So what am I making? Am I going to The Video Dept to help me make a traditional commercial spot? A talking head that says, "Come to my shop (while I show a few great end result hair cuts)?" Am I making 1 video long form video a week on YouTube and a a couple business related Quality of Life videos on IG? I guess I'm trying to figure out how these videos actually get butts in seats of my barbershop?
I'm a video content guy and I worked briefly at a local podcast studio here in Vegas, and I'm still struggling with these questions even after I've met people that make a few podcasts.
I'm asking, not to throw shade but to get clarity so I can move forward.
The most recent EXCELLENT episode of The Video Dept with Brenden Boyd literally talks about the value of having a digital product. Ok, so is the value in creating a bunch of How-to videos like you can get for free from Omar himself on YouTube? Are you (as the business owner) looking for coaching in how to create a weekly process to make consistent videos? How to make good titles? Are you looking for a place to shoot everything and edit it and return it to you packaged and ready to go like a boutique?
The impression that I get is that Omar used to do more of the physical 'build your studio for you' or shoot you in our space thing, but has pivoted away because people are willing to pay for.....
...I think I'm still trying to figure out what people are actually looking to pay for.
When I worked in the podcast studio, 1/2 the battle was convincing people that were 'possibly' interested in video that they NEEDED a podcast. They'd come in, do it, and the next thing I couldn't figure out is what they were doing WITH the video. They might have us lightly edit it (outsourced/ basic camera switching), and we would return it to them and they would tell me that the videos didn't get many views but they did it because they felt that they needed to. It wasn't really helping their business, but they needed video presence.
I want to do what Omar does. Full stop. I just can't wrap my brain around exactly what that is. I can't figure out if people are paying for his deep understanding of YouTube, if they're paying him to help them get their confidence to make videos consistently, or if they're paying to help them get the gear and tech to get started. Are they paying for his expertise about sales?
I know that this is long and I apologize to anyone who has read down this far. This has really been messing me up because I've hit a wall and don't know how to proceed. What ACTUAL CONSISTENT VALUE am I offering to a client so that I can confidently say, Pay me for THIS.
I was looking at the latest Think Media episode with Pat Flynn and they point out how information is OVERABUNDANT on YouTube. Everybody has readily accessible knowledge about how to shoot or video or how to light or how to mic a scene. There are so many great videos on storytelling and thumbnail creation. It's actually overwhelming. Do people like The Video Dept because all of it is in ONE spot broken down easily for convenience?
I made a video that I posted to the C2C community last week and I kept thinking to myself, "why would somebody pay for this when all of this content is legit FREE anywhere?"
So if you're a business owner, what are you looking to The video Dept for that you're willing to pay for coaching? I would love to learn about these pain points and learning how you want The Video Dept to solve them and what your expectations are for your business once they've been addressed. That would give me an INCREDIBLE amount of clarity about how to move forward myself.
Thanks so much for you time!
