Doing What You Love — And Adding Value While You Do It
Most of us didn’t get into coaching for the money, the title, or the spotlight.
We started because we loved the game.
Because someone once gave us their time, their belief, their wisdom, and we wanted to give it back.
It often began as a volunteer gig. A few hours a week. Helping out with youth practice. Throwing BP. Keeping stats. Driving the van. Being there.
But little by little… it grew into something more.
The passion deepened. The commitment increased. The impact expanded. And at some point, many of us realized:
We’re happiest when we’re doing what we love, and helping others grow through it.
Happiness = Doing What You Love, With Purpose
There’s something powerful that happens when what you love to do becomes what you get to do.
Even more powerful? When it becomes something that adds value to the people around you. That’s the sweet spot of coaching, and of life:
  • You’re doing what you love.
  • You’re aligned with your purpose.
  • And you’re pouring that energy into others.
Coaching becomes more than just reps, drills, and lineups. It becomes legacy work. Work that shapes teams, communities, and even families.
You start to see that you’re not just teaching players how to swing… you’re teaching them how to grow.
And that is deeply fulfilling.
So Let Me Ask You…
Where are you adding value right now?
  • Is it in how you run your practices?
  • Is it how you mentor your athletes off the field?
  • Is it in the culture you’ve built in your locker room?
  • Is it how you lead your staff, your school, your community?
  • Or is it in something smaller… yet just as meaningful?
Maybe it’s how you show up for that one player who’s struggling. Maybe it’s how you coach your team to be better humans, not just better hitters. Whatever it is, don’t lose sight of this: You are doing meaningful work. And if you can wake up each day knowing you’re doing what you love, and that it’s making others better, that’s real happiness.
Let's Talk
Drop a comment below:
  • What part of coaching brings you the most happiness?
  • Where do you feel you're making the biggest impact?
  • Is there an area you want to grow in when it comes to adding value?
Let’s encourage each other today. Coaching can be heavy at times, but it’s also a gift. So here’s your reminder:
You’re allowed to be happy while doing this. And your happiness, when paired with service, is one of your greatest coaching tools.
Keep going, Coach. You're doing it right.
