Tiger nut milk - creamy dairy alternative
Ok, this is one of my favourites so everyone needs to know :) It is so versatile and extremely well tolerated milk alternative, I am a bit obsessed.
Despite the name, tiger nuts are not nuts at all. They are small root vegetables (tubers), making tiger nut milk naturally dairy free and suitable for people with lots of sensitivities. I do a lot of food compatibility testings with my clients and work with lots of food sensitivities and this one has proven to be the best tolerated.
The taste is naturally sweet with a mild, earthy and neutral flavour. The texture is smooth and creamy. Unlike the other milk alternatives like almond, oat, rice milk that dilute your drink down, this one actually adds to your hot drinks.
You can enjoy it in smoothies, coffee, porridge, chia pudding, baking, or simply drink it on its own. It is very versatile and tolerates Heaton without splitting.
Nutritionally, tiger nut milk provides fibre, healthy fats, vitamin E, potassium and magnesium. It also contains resistant starch, a type of fibre that helps feed beneficial gut bacteria and supports digestive health.
And lastly, here in Australia, the Madame Tiger sells the version that has zero nasties in there, no seed oils either. This company hires women in Africa so that's another reason to support them. You can find this is health shops or order online.
