🌿 Weekly Reflection – Healing Voice Method (Week 1)
~Biggest Takeaways
One of my biggest takeaways from this week is the importance of foundational work in opening the gateway to the voice. I found myself thinking of it like an untuned piano — in order for the music to be beautiful, the instrument must first be tuned. These practices feel like we are tuning our own inner keys so that when our voice is expressed, something clear, resonant, and meaningful can come through.
I also gained a deeper appreciation for the physical preparation — posture, stretching, and warming up the body. It really highlighted how connected the voice is to the entire body, especially the upper body and throat. Creating space physically seems to directly support creating space vocally. I also found these exercises to be almost addictive in the best way — they felt so good that I naturally wanted to continue longer than I had planned.
The sound mimicking exercise was surprisingly enjoyable. I experimented with mimicking the sound of a fan and found it both playful and engaging. I’m looking forward to trying this with other everyday sounds (especially my espresso machine ☺️).
Another meaningful takeaway is that when we use the voice as a healing tool, we are not only expressing — we are also listening. There is a feedback loop that begins to form, where information, awareness, or subtle energetic impressions may arise. This may come through as a felt sense in the body or even as something we “hear” in a more intuitive or energetic way. That awareness feels like an important part of the healing process.
And a phrase that really stayed with me:
Voice is medicine. Expression is healing. We’ve got to hear it to heal it.
I found myself gravitating toward the humming practice more than anything else, which is reflected in my responses below. I practiced both in silence and alongside one of my 5-minute crystal singing bowl meditations — which was phenomenal.
~What I Noticed in My Body
During the humming practice, I became very aware of vibration — not only in my head and throat, but also extending into my chest and torso. It felt grounding and expansive at the same time. I also noticed a slight lightheadedness initially, which then transitioned into a deep sense of calm.
~Before vs. After
My preference was to do this practice right before bed, though I also incorporated it throughout the daytime. Before the practice, I felt relatively neutral but slightly mentally active. Afterward, I felt noticeably calmer, more centered, and almost in a trance-like state. There was a sense of stillness and internal quiet that lingered.
~What Came Up Emotionally
Nothing specific arose emotionally during this practice, but there was a subtle sense of ease and openness.
~What Felt Good or Natural
Humming felt especially natural and enjoyable. The resonance in my body felt soothing, and I actually didn’t want to stop. It felt like something my body recognized and welcomed.
Practicing with my eyes closed, playing the 5-minute crystal singing bowl meditation also helped me track time — it passed quickly, and I just hit replay to extend the practice to 10 minutes.
~What Helped Me Most
The combination of breath with sound — especially the simplicity of the “Ahh-ing” practice — felt very supportive. I often used this at the end of the humming and exercise practices, and it felt like a beautiful way to round them out, bringing a sense of lightness and happiness to my spirit.
The guidance around posture and physical preparation also made a noticeable difference in how the sound moved through my body.
~What I’d Like to Explore More
I would love to explore more about how different tones or pitches influence different areas of the body, and how to intentionally direct sound for specific outcomes (calming, energizing, releasing, etc.). I’m also interested in going deeper into sound mimicking and how it connects to intuition and environmental resonance.
~My Intention for This Course
My intention is to deepen my connection with my voice as both a personal healing tool and an instrument to support others. I want to continue opening and refining my authentic expression, while also learning how to safely and effectively integrate voice work into my sound therapy practice.
I also intend to stay consistent with the daily practices and remain open to whatever unfolds — trusting the process and allowing my voice to guide me.
~A Founding Pearl
I came across a video this week that felt very aligned with what we’re exploring. It’s a bit long, but well worth the time. It also made me think of Monika and how supportive this practice could be.
