Hi, I'm Jay (#ADDAZERO Founder)
Let me go first. I started my career not in business, but in the British Army. Twelve years as a Combat Medic — Bosnia, Kosovo, Sierra Leone. Rapid deployment. High pressure. Decisions that matter. I didn't leave by choice. A medical discharge in 2002 ended that chapter faster than I expected, and I found myself doing what a lot of people do when the life they planned disappears — I figured out what I was actually good at and built something new. I retrained. Change management. Blue ocean strategy. Spent a few years in corporate, quickly realised I was built for something else, and became a business owner. I bought businesses. Grew them. Scaled them. This is my Fourth (although I've now supported more than 500 others to achieve FREEDOM along the way) I also almost lost my first, and did lose my 3rd to Brexit — which collectively have taught me more about resilience and financial architecture than any course ever could. And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I started working with other business owners who were stuck in the same place I'd been — successful on paper, trapped in practice. That became my life's work. Over the last two decades I've worked with 500+ business owners across 34 countries. I've spoken at TEDx. I wrote the #ADDAZERO book trilogy — three books on how to Grow, Scale, and Exit a business successfully. I host The Accidental Business Owner Podcast. And I created the #ADDAZERO Methodology — a structured, proven approach to turning an owner-dependent business into something that works without you at the centre of it. I'm a Scale and Exit Mentor. A former soldier. A business owner who's been through the fire more than once. And I built this community because the conversation I have in paid programmes needed to exist somewhere that more people could access it. The question that sits at the heart of everything I do: Is your business giving you the life you built it for? If the answer isn't yes yet — that's why I'm here. And that's why you are too.
