What a fantastic day working with the Central Coast SurviveOars team heading to Sarasota for Nationals 2025! There's nothing better than working with a focused group of dedicated and committed paddlers who are hungry to improve. Huge thanks to skipper Preston for driving the chase boat during our first session - having that support on the water makes all the difference! And grateful to Roe for providing the OC1 for our second session, giving us even better coaching angles. And I got to scrimmage with the crew. Super stoked to have seen massive improvement from start to finish! We covered everything: start work, finish work, 2K turns, seating adjustments for better balance, plus dialed in those crucial 200m and 500m race pieces. The progress was incredible to witness - this team is going to be dangerous in Sarasota! We'll keep sharpening the sword and fine-tuning every detail as we build toward Nationals. What an amazing day on the water with Living Root Dragon Boat in Boston! The energy from this team was absolutely infectious - you could feel their energy for paddling from the moment we started! We started the warmup and they just TOOK OFF! One of the coolest parts of this clinic was getting to chase alongside in a traditional Hawaiian outrigger canoe with wooden iakos. It took some more work from me, but it made it extra fun! There's something special about being on the water in such a beautiful, authentic craft while coaching - it connected me even more to the paddling experience and gave me incredible angles to observe technique! 🛶 The Living Root crew brought focus and enthusiasm to every drill we worked on. From technique fundamentals to power development, these paddlers were eager to learn and quick to implement adjustments. We covered burger and sandwich joints, we talked about beach balls, and we talked about putting away our wallets. Their willingness to push themselves and try new approaches was inspiring to watch! Boston's paddling community continues to impress me with their dedication and team spirit. The combination of serious training and genuine fun that Living Root brings to the water is exactly what makes dragon boat so special. Thank you to everyone who came out for the clinic! What an incredible weekend with the KC Pink Warriors in Kansas City! These amazing women have built something truly special since founding their team in 2019 - now over 50 strong and growing every year. Mother Nature decided to test our dedication with a thunderstorm that dumped 2 inches of rain in just one hour! But did that stop these warriors? Not a chance. We waited it out, and as soon as the skies cleared, we were back on the water with even more determination. That's the spirit that has carried this team to victory at festivals across the country! 🌩️⚡ I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity to work with such resilient paddlers. Many of these incredible women have faced the ultimate test - cancer - and are either currently in treatment or celebrating being clear. Their strength, courage, and commitment to living life to the fullest is absolutely inspiring. Being on the water with them reminded me why dragon boat is so much more than just a sport. We focused on technique fundamentals, power development, and race strategy as they prepare for their second annual Kansas City Dragon Boat Festival in September. The energy and enthusiasm despite the weather challenges was phenomenal! We covered grabbing the drink, in & out, subway sandwiches, high five, ice skating, exit push, putting away your wallet, and lots of race starts and mock races! As team president Linda Miller says, "Being out on the water together is a special feeling — it's where we really tap into our own strength." I witnessed that strength firsthand this weekend. What a fantastic day on the water with Capital Outrigger Canoe Club in Sacramento! The paddling community here continues to grow and shows such dedication to improving their outrigger technique. Thank you all for your focus and enthusiasm during our water sessions! We covered essential drills including change, brace, touch the water, put away your wallet, crush the triangle, grab drinks, and many others. Your commitment to learning and willingness to try new approaches was inspiring. Special thanks to Ahna for coordinating this clinic as well as the Aquatic Center for letting us use the skiffs to support the coaching and learning. It made for an excellent training environment. Love seeing the outrigger community growing in the desert! 🌵 I'm also loving all the dragon boat X outrigger crossover. There's so much history behind both sports.
