Hey folks.. I’m starting this more or less from scratch and the last days I started to wonder and found myself in a bit of a pickle.. my insta profile reads: „enby anarchist matriarch queen / prod & perf - helping my peeps release unique music & add human value to surpass themselves and grow into their highest form“ - is that opening the store front or closing the door? Let me know how you feel, especially if you’re NOT queer :)
Pricing -- day rates vs per song
I am interested in peoples opinions on day rates vs per song and what the best approaches are. I have always done day rate, but I end up doing a lot of pre production and bits and pieces. But I think a per song will look too much as one lump amount, as people tend to prefer to try and get a lot done in the time. But I refocusing my studio work and have new clients coming in I will be doing a lot of production work on, including playing and arrangment, so I wonder about how I might approach this going forward. Is it offering the options? What guardrails do people put in place? I do indie guitar and song based music, not pop or electronic, so its alternative and band or songwriter led.
Are you a remote producer?
We’ve got amazing producers from all over the world here, but it got me thinking about location and how many people here rely on artists coming to them, and how many of you work completely remote? I’ve been remote for almost my entire career. Working with clients around the world in every continent. It means I can work on multiple projects a day sometimes if I need, and most importantly, I can plan my life alongside my work, not letting my work dictate too much of where I need to be. Comment below, are your remote? Let’s see what share of this community are!

payments and calls
Hello! I have a couple of questions that aren’t at all related. Firstly…The best way to follow up on someone for payment without coming across as desperate or pushy? We agreed on splitting the payments over 3 instalments as we move through the project, and we’re past the first payment date we agreed, I’m finding this happening often. I wish I was in a situation to not stress over it, and also it makes me reserved to progress on the project which there was a deadline for. Other than that the project is going really well, so i believe it’s just a financial issue Second question is transitioning over to calls, would you still recommend this if there’s a language barrier? Currently I’m talking to some artists who don’t speak English, the initial talks are going well but it’s thanks to instagrams auto translate. Should I stay there or always move over to a call? I feel I have enough info to suggest an offer/pitch Thanks!
Pricing
Yoo! I’m just coming fresh off a video chat with my next potential client. It went well I guess since I did not have to raise the payment issue, it was the client asking me to deliver a quote. I’m quite firm on my pricing when it comes to Ghostproductions but I’m hitting new ground here as a producer. Is there a way we can discuss this quickly? Here is fine ☺️
