Hey folks.. I’m starting this more or less from scratch and the last days I started to wonder and found myself in a bit of a pickle.. my insta profile reads: „enby anarchist matriarch queen / prod & perf - helping my peeps release unique music & add human value to surpass themselves and grow into their highest form“ - is that opening the store front or closing the door? Let me know how you feel, especially if you’re NOT queer :)
Pricing -- day rates vs per song
I am interested in peoples opinions on day rates vs per song and what the best approaches are. I have always done day rate, but I end up doing a lot of pre production and bits and pieces. But I think a per song will look too much as one lump amount, as people tend to prefer to try and get a lot done in the time. But I refocusing my studio work and have new clients coming in I will be doing a lot of production work on, including playing and arrangment, so I wonder about how I might approach this going forward. Is it offering the options? What guardrails do people put in place? I do indie guitar and song based music, not pop or electronic, so its alternative and band or songwriter led.

Im more or less just starting this and I am definitely going with project rates. This new client offered hourly rates and I declined and offered three different project rates - like basic, premium and elite - and the client really appreciated the initiative and it made him trust me more.
my intro ! name is Hero/SWAVE
Hey ! Glad to be here in the community! My name is Hero, and i go by SWAVE as my producer name:) I've been producing for 10 years now, and my favourite part of this job is creating music that uniquely conveys my worldview. Usually that means experimenting with/manipulating the sounds I use to more succinctly convey the granularity of my thoughts/emotions. Frequently, I create music inspired by colours/images/art, i love the creative liberty it gives me, and how it forces me to think differently about the sounds/fx/techniques i'm using! i'll attach some of my work below, for context, i took a boring picture of my coffee (lol), and used that to inspire the beat i went on to make afterwards ! As well as some more of my work that i'm particularly proud of:) In terms of what I'm working on, my focus at the moment is monetising my craft, and helping people find their sound as a producer! Because of AI, and the impact it's had over the creative industry, i've felt as though we need to explore our creativity now more than ever, and nurture the humanity in our music through exploring WHY it is we gravitate toward sounds, our personal relation to sounds and how they convey a certain emotion, the purpose our music serves etc etc. Where I'm stuck: I'm struggling to manage all the responsibilities that come with growing my income and balancing all parts of being a producer. Producing, inbound, outreach, filming videos, editing videos, calls, etc. It adds up to 12-14 hours a day (even by fixing the problem of task switching by assigning days to certain tasks), and of all the work I'm doing, I find it hard to know where I'm spending too little time/too much time and prioritising 'optimally' for lack of better words. So I guess in short, systemising it all and figuring out how to manage everything at once. Any advice on how you guys have systemised it ? https://www.youtube.com/@swavebeats https://www.instagram.com/herodotmusic/

Hey.. nice to meet you here. I have yet to build a coherent system.. it’s the main reason I’m here 😊
£47,000 just landed in my bank.
I've been trying to think of a way to share moments like these in a way that doesn't feel like a brag. Unfortunately, I feel like it's almost impossible, but considering we are a close community of producers aiming towards more income, I think it's important to share what's possible. When I was charging £300 to produce a song 10 years ago, I was terrified to jump up to £600. I was even more terrified to jump to £1,200. That slowly crept to £1,500, then £1,800, then £2,100, until it settled at £2,400 recently. Fast forward 10 years, and I'm sending invoices out for £47,000. Admittedly, these big chunks only come a handful of times in the year, but that's because I know my avatar. I've created a killer offer, and I've gained the confidence over those 10 years to be bold. For full clarity, this is to use the same production skills I use for artists, but to create music directly with a creative director at a brand. This is not sync. This is doing a pitch, doing sales calls, nurturing the relationship, and much more to land this paycheck. Same skills we teach in StudioLand. The reason I started StudioLand was to make that timeline much shorter for you guys to get to where you want to be, also, maybe get you there for the first time, charging any money at all. The number doesn't matter. The process does. If you're at the £300 mark now, there is every chance you can get to the £47,000 mark at some point down the line. It doesn't stop there. My biggest paycheck to date for a piece of music is £105,000. MENTAL! Yes, I'll be going for a beer to celebrate because I'm human and this is a great moment in the month, but I am also sharing this to say to you that I have firsthand experience in charging decent money to produce music. If you're ready to take that leap and you know all you need is to be around people making it happen, I can give you all the information and all the secrets I have. All you need is the drive, the commitment, and the belief that it is possible to do this as your career full-time, and nothing else.

Pricing
Yoo! I’m just coming fresh off a video chat with my next potential client. It went well I guess since I did not have to raise the payment issue, it was the client asking me to deliver a quote. I’m quite firm on my pricing when it comes to Ghostproductions but I’m hitting new ground here as a producer. Is there a way we can discuss this quickly? Here is fine ☺️
