Thinking of our Garden Route family today! The "Garden Route spirit" is being tested once again as Mossel Bay recovers from a terrifying night. A massive wildfire swept through several areas, and while the brave firefighters have managed to contain most of the flanks this morning, January 7th, the damage is heartbreaking. The Latest: 🏠 At least 10 homes in Vakansieplaas have been destroyed, with more damaged in Hartenbos Heuwels and Aalwyndal. 🛣️ The N2 has officially reopened after being closed overnight due to thick smoke and dangerous conditions. 👨‍🚒 Three of our hero firefighters were injured battling the blazes; we are wishing them a speedy recovery. 🛡️ Authorities are currently on high alert and patrolling evacuated areas to ensure property safety. How we can help: If you are in the area and want to support, the Mossel Bay Municipality has asked that all donations (water, energy drinks, non-perishable food) be dropped off at the Mossel Bay Fire Station on the corner of Schoeman Street and Louis Fourie Road. A massive thank you to the Working on Fire teams, local volunteers, and the ATKV Hartenbos for opening their doors to those displaced. It’s in times like these that we see what makes South Africa so special—the way we step up for one another.
