Happy Valentines Day!
Sometimes, leadership, real leadership, means disappointment
This is me talking straight to you. Me.. and you, get it? Face to face or, as close as we can get right here, right now. For the past few decades I've been placed in leadership roles. Sometimes along side some really great leaders, sometimes along side leaders who seemingly were awarded a title without showing leadership skills. Nonetheless, we were all headed to lead our crews and teams. Never have I been perfect. I've publicly embarrassed myself, missed or mixed up words, fumbled and fell publicly. Sometimes, leadership means disappointment. Perhaps you've trusted someone to accomplish something they've been assigned to do, and it reflects back negatively on you. As a leader, you hold yourself accountable for that situation. "Maybe i didn't explain to them just how important it was for them to do this. I'll do better next time. " Perhaps, the disappointment is in yourself. You fell short of what you should have accomplished. You didn't communicate effectively... like in the scenario above. We get hard on ourselves. But real leadership is getting back up, and trying to do better next time. Have you experienced disappointment in your role as a leader? What happened? What did you learn? Ahhh...confidence! The Better builder upper! (Think Brawny paper towels 😆)
Speaker 1 (00:00) Good morning, ladies today is Thursday, January. The 29th, whenever day you have to be able to listen to this good morning. Good morning, good morning. Speaker 1 (00:10) My name is spring. Hope the founder of embraced life, coaching and fitness. And one of the members here, founding members of soul fire sisterhood, elite, also founded a youth services, nonprofit called 2, which is the number two the next chapter. Speaker 1 (00:28) But today, I wanted to talk with you about confidence confidence. How do we build confidence? Well the reality ISIS confidence is a trust that you have in yourself. Speaker 1 (00:40) So some people are under the premise that you know oh well, once I have confidence, you know, then I'll go out and do this thing and I'll take on this endeavor and I'll chat and I'll take on this challenge. And I'll accomplish so much, and that's actually not true. Sorry to burst a rubble. Speaker 1 (00:55) If that's your thoughts, but nope, it's not true. The way that you built confident is by being honest with yourself and keeping your promises to yourself and doing the things before you're ready to do them. And learning and growing and just getting better failure, or you know, they say there is no failure. Speaker 1 (01:17) It's winning in lessons right? But part of that confidence-building is your ability to not succeed. You know, the first few times maybe, and then each time you make your attempt, you get a little bit better, you get a little better. Speaker 1 (01:32) And your confidence in yourself grows, because you're continuing to keep your promises to yourself. Okay, another thing that I want to talk about with confidence too is never, ever allow somebody else's opinion or statement towards you. Impact your confidence level. Speaker 1 (01:52) They do not have any power at all. To determine your value. Your confidence, anything about you unless you give them that power, so never allow them to do anything like that.
Find a way..
Several years ago I was at the Chicago theater downtown Chicago. The reason I was there was, a few reasons actually. 1. My daughter was 15 years old and the first 15 year old to be in the Varsity swimming AND diving teams. 2. She had started swimming lessons at the age of 5 and took to the water naturally. (She gets that from her father who the only thing that stopped him from becoming a Navy SEAL was he didn't have perfect vision. ) She'd set her own PR' s and broke them over and over again. To say she was "dedicated " would be an understatement. She once got upset because I pulled her out of swimming practice when he had an upper respiratory infection and despite that, went to swimming practice, which is held in the winter months, anyway. 3. The World Record holder for swimming from Cuba to the United States unassisted was there to promote her book, "Find a Way". I'd watched the world Record event and cheered her on as she stumbled from the ocean waters in to the beach yelling at the crowd, "Nobody touch her!" Doing so would have disqualified her and after several attempts, would have robbed her from her precious victory! Diana Nyad. To this day, still someone I admire. Not only for that, she's incredibly intelligent I got the opportunity to talk with her about her failed attempts and her final successful one. Incredibly dangerous and she nearly died doing it. But, she wouldn't let anyone stop her. In our conversation she'd asked me, "west's YOUR thing?" At the time, I told her I wasn't quite sure yet. All if knew was that I wanted to help people. She looked me eye to eye and said, "Find A Way. " I share this with you in hopes to inspire you like she did me. Everything you can do today, once upon a time, you couldn't. You may have even thought it "impossible. " Take a moment to think about all the things you can do that at one time, you couldn't. Yes, there will be things that may prevent you from doing certain things, if you allow them to do that. My nephew, Morgan was only 5'9 and made the basketball team in the Navy because of his skills but also he was super fast.

Your Energy and Expectations
Speaker 1 (00:01) Okay, ladies, good morning. Speaker 2 (00:03) It is Tuesday, wonderful, Tuesday. And today just something to be considerate of or something to be conscious of is what kind of energy are you putting out there in the world today? I want you to think about maybe how you sat in your world yesterday. Speaker 2 (00:22) What kind of energy did you put out when you walked into the office or when you walk? Speaker 1 (00:29) You know, through. Speaker 2 (00:31) The door coming back home or you know, going to the store or whatever rooms that you entered in yesterday. Any spaces that you entered in. What kind of energy did you put out there? Speaker 2 (00:42) And I want you to pay really close attention to that energy today. Whenever you're listening to this message, because what you put out there literally is going to be what you attract back. And what you look for you're going to find. Speaker 2 (00:58) So if you go with intention into whatever space you need to go in today Speaker 1 (01:04) You go in there and before you go in Speaker 2 (01:06) You say, you know what I am, I'm gonna bring? You know, light with me as I come in the room. I'm gonna bring energy levels that are higher. Speaker 2 (01:15) I'm going to smile. I'm going to expect great things to happen to me today. And you walk into the room, it's going to be a different feeling, not just from yourself. Speaker 2 (01:26) But from other people who come in contact with you than, say somebody who walks in the room, and they're, like, I can't stand this place, you know, I can't stand these people all these people are idiots. Speaker 1 (01:40) I Speaker 2 (01:40) You know, this is this is horrible. You know, I've got this meeting today and it's just gonna go miserable. Because so-and-so is going to be in there, you know, I mean, it is a completely different attitude, a completely different energy. Speaker 2 (01:53) And if you can control that energy prior to going into those rooms, your outcome is going to be so much better. You know, also you have to look at your physiology when you go into these spaces. Also, have you ever been in a meeting like before?
