This is me talking straight to you. Me.. and you, get it? Face to face or, as close as we can get right here, right now.
For the past few decades I've been placed in leadership roles. Sometimes along side some really great leaders, sometimes along side leaders who seemingly were awarded a title without showing leadership skills. Nonetheless, we were all headed to lead our crews and teams.
Never have I been perfect. I've publicly embarrassed myself, missed or mixed up words, fumbled and fell publicly.
Sometimes, leadership means disappointment. Perhaps you've trusted someone to accomplish something they've been assigned to do, and it reflects back negatively on you.
As a leader, you hold yourself accountable for that situation. "Maybe i didn't explain to them just how important it was for them to do this. I'll do better next time. "
Perhaps, the disappointment is in yourself. You fell short of what you should have accomplished. You didn't communicate effectively... like in the scenario above.
We get hard on ourselves. But real leadership is getting back up, and trying to do better next time.
Have you experienced disappointment in your role as a leader?
What happened?
What did you learn?
