The Tie Width Question

Hello everyone I've emerged from the void, in the hopes to answer a question I've longed too answer What tie width is timeless, and can be matched with a variety of lapel lengths, I feel 3 inches is a good start for a tie width but the look can look a bit slim at times and sometimes I feel 3.5 inches can look a bit wide, Ive spent hours wearing, measuring and even modifying some ties but I wanted to know what your thoughts are on the subject.
