Edgar Allan Poe
I study the works of Edgar Allan Poe and I have visited his home in Baltimore, MD. My favorite poem that he penned in 1845 was "The Raven." The first stanza:
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door -
"Tis some visitor," I muttered, "Tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more."
Poe was only 40 years old when he died in Baltimore. His home is surrounded by a rod iron fence with Ravens on it. Very cool and haunting. Stories that I really enjoy are The Black Cat and the Tell Tale Heart. All are classics and should be read in high school but the aren't because they upset the students.
Let me know if anyone has read some of his works.
