Austin area 🎸 players and musicians I love
(Obvious ones first) Stevie Ray Vaughan Jimmie Vaughan/Fabulous Thunderbirds Eric Johnson Gary Clark Jr (ones you probably don’t know) Chris Duarte (UNBELIEVABLE PLAYER) Van Wilks (ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST UNDERRATED, best friend’s with Billy Gibbons and EJ. He had SRV’s bass player Tommy Shannon in his band called Fools in the 70s before he went to go play with SRV in Double Trouble. Tommy Shannon was also Johnny Winter’s bass player for awhile too. The band Fools was Austin’s original blues rock trio. I am friends with Van and have taken lessons from him before.) David Grissom (very cool and unique style) Monte Montgomery (killer acoustic player, friend’s with Tommy Immanuel) Jake Andrews (friends with EJ, AMAZING PLAYER. I am friends with him and have taken lessons from him as well.) Ian Moore (a vibe of his own) Will Owen Gage (unbelievable left handed 🎸player from San Antonio area) Gary Cain (Canadian, lived here for a little bit, now lives in England. Imagine SRV, Eric Johnson and Danny Gatton put into one man, that’s Gary. CRAZY!!) Dave Scher (MONSTER 🎸 PLAYER!! Has played many shows and toured with Eric Johnson, just out of this world as a musician in general, plays multiple instruments, sings, etc. But his guitar playing is unreal) Billy White (from Austin, played guitar with Don Dokken for a little bit and then moved back to Austin and had his own cool band called the Billy White Trio. Outstanding guitar player, now I believe he’s a Buddhist monk. My aunt went to high school with him. She knew he was gonna go play for Don Dokken before the word got out.) Shane Johnson (Imagine Dragons guitar/amp tech lives in the Austin area when not touring with them. He builds/repairs guitars, amps, pedals, etc but is also one of the best guitar players I’ve ever seen in my life!!!) Jennifer Harrold (baddest girl ever. She’s like a female Jimi Hendrix) Johnny McGowan is a badass country and rockabilly player David Spann (shredder from Hell, similar to EJ)
Check out Rory Hoffman Yall!
I was telling Chris about him last night. He is blind and lives in Nashville and is a Savant like Shawn and is a master of many instruments actually. Here he is just tearing it up on an acoustic guitar with Tommy Emanuel! Insanity! Sid and I are both huge Rory Hoffman fans!
