Cushions or bushings what is to soft?

So I'm a new skater, and I'm starting to get into moves now that invole edge control. I've made it to where i needed to loosen my trucks a great deal to be able to get the edge that i need, for moves like the dip, or a jb sway. The problem i am having is when its time to come back off that edge I feel like I have no assistance from the skate at all. Is this normal, and something that will take time to get used to, Do i need new cushions, and if so any recommendations? Im currently running the riedell powerdyne thrust plate with the orange color cushions.
