The Fundamentals Live Recording 📹
We had a great call going over some of what I consider to be, the fundamentals of roller skating. I felt the need to explain the fundamentals because it's what I teach every week in all my beginner classes, and it applies to even the more advanced skills skaters are trying to develop. I thought this would be useful for the most amount of people. I focus on three main concepts in this lesson, which are: - Edges - Weight distribution - Weight transfer from one foot to the other When you understand some of these key concepts, then you start to understand what you're doing with your body or what someone else is doing when you're watching and trying to learn from someone else. That helps you focus and duplicate more effectively. I give examples for beginner levels and advanced levels, and some drills on how to practice it and explanations on understanding it. Tell me what y'all think.

But this was a help, because I'm working building the strength for better toe-manuals and pivots, But never one time did i think to incorporate that much of an edge to where the skate shifts on its own. you incorporated workouts in the classroom videos, but which ones would you recommend to be able to go deep into an edge, and be able to come out. like lateral ankle movent ?

@Knejie Allen I found this on Amazon: https://a.co/d/05JxQn5b. It helped a ton; so much that I had to get rid of my riedell 120s. I found out fast that the plate they came with didn't have enough edge. Also I was wondering in your next live can you go more in detail on weight transferring; for more precise movements like stepping behind when rolling backwards or dipping.
One foot edges training
First I would like to say I have pretty good one foot blance, with my trucks on the looser side I can skate half my rink on either side with one foot. The problem i am having using both inside and outside edges on one foot, seen in styles like jb or STL. Now as an intermediate skater I am big on training with skates off, and exercising the muscles I use to skate at the gym. Doing this has taken months of the learning curve, and i was looking for suggestions for training my ankles to handle this sway off skates ? There's no stupid opinions I feel every one can benefit from this. 2 ex. Videos will be posted if unfamiliar with the styles.

@Weslica Johnson-ROCK oh no, I was only able to do 15min. I do other blance exercises as well; a good one i started doing is: balancing on one foot with a wall to my right , swinging the hanging left leg forward in one foot pivot motion, tap the wall with my foot, one to the front, and one to the back. On the way back i make sure to turn my torso with it to simulate a pivot turn back forward.

@Aleeta Powe if you serious about skating, and growing as a skater forshore somethings like these need to be done. Even if you can't see it directly improving your balance; your definitely improving the odds of injury.

@Albert Schepis it a long winded explanation, but let's just say you not doing it for muscle gain as much as muscle hardness. Kinda like a runners vs football players

And the ability to make those muscles work together no matter the position your holding your body
Recommendations 4 Skates?
Hi, I am just getting into rollerskating. I am confused on what type of skates to get for myself. The skating rink I go to only goes up to a size 13 and sadly I wear a size 15. I was recommended to buy some SureGrip GT50 skates. Are there any other (if better) skates I should get before confirming the purchase?

The amount of money you are going to spend just to find one in your size, will be the same as you going full into the best you can buy. I my self just got the 172 og by riedell and it was a wider toe box soft breathable leather and placement of your fore foot to wear the trucks sit is perfect thats very important if your looking to get into rhythm skating i have the 120 juice by riedell and the toe box is narrow also the plate to truck placement seems to be off and causes be to use to much of my toes instead of my fore foot causing foot cramps but it is manageable but you will want to upgrade after you have gotten better and found you edges
Keeping social media in perspective.
I know you never get to see the hours others put into skating to get as good as they are online. Tough to not compare yourself when you've been out here 6-8 hours a week for 2 years and can't do half the things they are doing. Guess we gotta lock in the training lol.

To be honest I felt the same way; thats into i found my cheat code. Which was taking the skates off ,and hitting the gym to obtain the strength that it took them years to build up. A 24 year old guy at my rink gave me this knowledge; and was admit on how your core, and leg strength should exceed the difficulty of the moves your attempting to do. He's only been skating for 7 months and already has jb, and snapping down. So i listend now I find myself loose, and moving freely. Looking into my first style now. I struggled bad too i understood this...also the right pair of skates doesn't help either 😅
