Brought to Tears By A Song
Has a song ever moved me to tears? Hell yeah! A number of songs have.
I think guys tend to be hesitant to talk about this, but before we get into this any further, here's a public service announcement:
If you're serious about singing, you have to put in the effort. Nothing will be handed to you on a silver platter.
Have you ever seen footage of Draven or of one of his students headlining an arena or even a 2,000 seat venue? Where are all the great success stories that have come from RSS?
Even on YouTube, look at the views he's getting. Most of his more recent uploads have views in double digits. How does someone fail so spectacularly with a YouTube channel about rock vocals if he has anything of value to offer?
Look at Draven's competitors. Chris Liepe, for example, uploads three times a week and every video Liepe uploads either gets views in the thousands, the tens of thousands or sometimes even over 100K views. Chris Liepe runs his business like a business and he actually has connections in the business because he takes it seriously.
On his YT channel:
Liepe has had Will Ramos as a guest.
Liepe has had Andy Cizek as a guest.
Liepe has had Spencer Sotelo as a guest.
Now, can you really imagine a dilettante like Draven attracting guests of that caliber? I don't think so! If he asked, they wouldn't even respond. These are serious people and serious people associate with serious people.
Success in the YouTube channel business doesn't typically come to dilettantes. For Draven to take a two year break and somehow not think that was going to wreck his channel...that level of naiveté is staggering.
Look at the quality of people he has attracted. There is a protocol for joining. Instructions are given as to where to introduce yourself. There are three questions one is asked to answer. Three.
The vast majority of the people this place attracts fail to post their introductions in the correct place and they also fail to answer all three questions. Wow. All three, boatload of questions that it is.
Serious people take their channels seriously and attract serious people as a result. Channel owners upload new content on a regular schedule and they rarely if ever deviate from that schedule. Some upload content two or three times a week. Their businesses thrive because they treat their businesses as businesses.
Draven, you've mismanaged your channel to such an extent that the only viable way for you to proceed would be to start a completely new channel and then proceed to run that channel as an actual business. I told you that in August of 2024. What has your channel accomplished since then? You should have taken my advice, but that would have required that you put forth effort.
Don't you think it gives potential students or even potential community members reason to feel wary of taking you seriously? At least some must think: "If he's got any value to offer, why is he doing so poorly? Why can't he muster five figure views per upload"?
If they can't take the channel seriously, what would be their incentive to join the community? The channel is, or should be, an entrée into the community.
End of PSA.
There have been times when if tears were blood, I'd have needed a transfusion as a result of being overwhelmed by the power and beauty of music.
One beautiful lady’s music has caused me to spill quite a few tears. Her name is Tori Amos and I've been to five of her concerts.
Tori Amos is a phenomenally talented singer, songwriter and piano player. She was the youngest person ever admitted into the Peabody Conservatory of Music. She was five years old.
Peabody is for classical music. Around the age of twelve, Tori got expelled from Peabody for continually insisting on playing rock music. It showed she had the right attitude for the rock music world. Still, the seven years she studied there gave her a great musical background!
I don’t think there are too many musicians who deliver the emotional intensity Tori Amos does. Many tears have been spilled listening to her songs. Her song Precious Things is a song so exquisite that it can have that effect.
If you listen to the live performance of Precious Things that I've included, you’ll notice that at 5:25 into the video you will hear her being transformed by her music. She's abandoning all inhibitions to dare to be vulnerable enough, to leave herself so exposed as to let her audience see into her soul!
Tori Amos is also one of the most passionate live performers I've ever seen. She gives her all in every concert. Once in a while, in a transcendent moment, she’ll even go beyond just “giving her all.” At those moments it’s almost like a religious experience. It's certainly a spiritual experience!
Tori makes her audience spill so many tears, it creates a cleansing effect in us. Our tears wash away the impurities in our souls, leaving that which remains in a pristine state.
