When Do I Reward/Treat Myself Exactly?
So this is something that’s been on my mind for a while.
I’ve tried to apply the idea of “rewarding myself” before — back in high school, for example, I’d treat myself after finishing a chapter while studying or completing a task. That part felt clear and structured.
However, when it comes to work and more serious responsibilities, the situation becomes a bit different. Often, I delay or ignore things I want, just to stay focused on what I have to do. Then I finish something important… and I don’t even pause to acknowledge it. I just move straight into the next thing.
By the time I actually think about it, the moment has already passed. It doesn’t feel like a “big achievement” anymore — it just feels like something that had to be done. The emotional side of it fades, and it turns into more rational thinking, like “yeah, that’s just normal.”
So I end up either not treating myself at all, or not even knowing if what I did deserves it in the first place.
What do you guys think about that? How do you personally define when something deserves a reward? And how do you balance between discipline and actually allowing yourself to enjoy what you’ve achieved?
