Undershirts - Your thoughts?

What is your take on undershirts?

I always wear them under dress, button down, or polo shirts. It helps keep the life in my nice shirts, since all the sweat is taken by the undershirt. My shirts would be horribly stained after a few uses without them.

I've always stuck with white since matching the undershirt color to my outfit never worked for me. Recently I've been trying different neck shapes. My standard is the basic crew neck. I tried the V neck but don't like it because most of the time the color peeks out under the shirt and I think the intention is to not see the undershirt. I'm now starting to like the U or boat neck. It never shows or peeks out. I definitely think it looks cleaner with certain outfits.
