Too formal for jeans?

I bought a pair of suede derbies from eBay. I wore them out to dinner with chinos tonight, but tomorrow we're going to the wholesale club and I'm wearing dark-wash Levi's because whenever I wear chinos there they get stained. The derbies are less formal than oxfords but more formal than loafers, even though the suede brings down the formality level. I'm just wondering if they're appropriate to wear with jeans? It's been a while since I've worn lace-ups.
