Protect your name
Good morning gentlemen,
As you are all aware I spoke about de digitizing my life. Part of this was getting back to writing and in doing so I realized that my cursive writing skills had dropped dramatically. I could not make decent cursive letters to save my life. Now for some of you younger gentlemen I know some schools quit teaching cursive writing and you do not understand this aspect. But growing up, the most important aspect of writing cursive was to be able to sign your name to documents. Why is that important? Because your signature has a unique style of your handwriting, this could protect people from forging your name on documents. Now days I know that many signatures are done digital on pads where you use your finger or a stylist to sign. I usually see people just scribble our make an “X” where the signature goes.
Gentlemen, I want to caution you, just scrubbing on a document or on a pad for a signature can get you in serious trouble when someone forges your identity and signs your name to documents and uses the same “X” line. That you normally use. This has been happening lately and company’s are now pushing to hold a persons accountable saying that you signed these things. And because you do not a a proper signature, you have no way of proving that you did not sign these things documents. Yes you can go to court and fight it but, I can tell you the price you will pay for an attorney to fight it will cost you a fortune. I have a friend who someone stole his identity, went to a car dealership and signed for a new car. He had to fight this and one of the biggest things, was that he never really signed his name just scribble and the person that did this basically did the same thing. So he had to fight to prove that he did not sign for this car. I myself had an issue once that someone said that I signed for a package that I did not receive but the one thing that they could not deny was that it was not my signature. When that saw my signature and the person use signed for it, it was clear that I did not sign for that package and they could not deny it and they had to send me another one.
Your signature should be like your signature cologne, or you signature watch, that when people see or smell that scent without them seeing you they can say I believe that is Anthony or Chuck, I can tell by his watch on his arm in that group of people. Or I knew that was him I smelled his cologne when he walked by going out the door. Your hand writing signature is what will signify that is you or that is not you.
If you never learned cursive and maybe you did and have not done it in a long time. Gentlemen, make sure you have a signature that is identifiable as you and not someone else. Someone might try to copy your signature but they can tell by certain styles and point in a signature to identify if it is yours. My father had a unique signature and I remember I use to practice signing his name just in case I needed it. And that day came one day and I signed his name to a letter that I got in school that he had to sign about getting in trouble , I was so proud of that signature. I just knew that no one would tell the difference, the school knew! They knew that the signature although close was off and they called my dad. Well he knew, when they called him to confirm and he went to the school and got the papers and he saw that it was close but certain point of his name were not right and the slope of the writing was not correct. Yes I paid the price for that one! But the point was even though I had practiced writing his name and had it down pat, there was things in the signature that stood out and I got caught.
Gentlemen, protect yourselves make sure that when you sign documents that you take the time to not only read them but sign them with your signature and develop a signature that you can identify and prove that the signature is or is not yours. Doctors, lawyers, most professional people know the value of their signature and they make sure that they use it. Make sure that you have a signature and use it when you sign for anything. This will not only protect you, but save you from a lot of stress, problems, and headaches.
