It's been a fantastic week at the office. The only downside is spending more of my day on management and less on the scientific client work we do. That said, I would not change our trajectory for anything.
I told my AI app to have fun with the write up today. Let's see how that goes!
"Cashmere & Cream: Friday Luxe in Beige"
What a week it's been! And what better way to close it out than draped in cashmere, wool, and a color palette that whispers "effortless sophistication" while shouting "I'm ready for the weekend." Today's internal meetings called for polished comfort—this John W. Nordstrom cashmere blazer answered with aplomb.
• Blazer — DOJ-002 (John W. Nordstrom): A beige cashmere single-breasted blazer with brown horn buttons and a full gray/brown lining—pure Nordstrom old-school luxury. The notched lapels and dual rear vents give it a classic American silhouette, while the cashmere drape feels like wearing a cloud. The slash chest pocket and inner pockets (two chest, one business card) keep everything organized. This is a big investment piece from pre-2019 that elevates every outfit it touches.
• Trousers — SL-017 (Bachrach): Heavy virgin wool herringbone slacks from Bachrach—American-made with serious presence. The hook & bar closure with button tab, slanted front pockets, and two rear button pockets give these a heritage feel that pairs perfectly with the cashmere blazer. The dark brown herringbone weave creates beautiful visual depth against the beige jacket.
• Shirt — DS-013 (David Donahue): A purple gingham David Donahue dress shirt in soft cotton with mother-of-pearl buttons—my Friday Rule pick with zero wears since September 15, 2025. The semi-spread collar (5.66" spread) frames the tie beautifully. This shirt has been patiently waiting for its debut, and today it finally takes center stage against that gorgeous beige cashmere. (ACTUALLY, THIS SHIRT WILL BE RETIRED TODAY. NECK IS WAY TOO BIG AND THE ARMS ARE TOO SHORT)
• Undershirt — US-008 (Pro Club): A heavy-weight tan Pro Club crew neck that disappears under the purple gingham while adding warmth for the mild 65°F spring day.
• Tie — NT-040 (Nordstrom): A Walden Geo Jacquard silk tie in taupe brown with dark brown and cream geometric patterns—the perfect mediator between the purple shirt and beige jacket. The 3" width and low sheen silk construction keep things business-appropriate while the small-scale repeating pattern adds visual interest.
• Suspenders — SB-005 (JJ Suspenders): The Autumn Harvest Classic Brown Suspenders from JJ Suspenders deliver that warm, textured aesthetic perfect for today's cashmere and creme ensemble. Crafted with silk and leather construction over elastic, these Y-back suspenders feature a rich cocoa brown base with cream and dark brown accents in a subtle static pattern—just enough visual interest without overwhelming your outfit.
• Footwear — DSh-010 (Cobbler Union): Cobbler Union Benjamin Chelsea boots in dark brown Charles F. Stead suede on the Ritz last—Goodyear welted Spanish craftsmanship with a fiddleback beveled waist. The suede texture echoes the cashmere's luxurious hand feel. Slip-on ease for a Friday that might run late.
• Socks — DSo-049 (Southern Scholar): Mid-calf Southern Scholar dress socks in espresso brown with white accents. The brown bridges belt to boots while the subtle white detail adds a touch of visual interest.
• Collar Clip — TA-001 (Fort Belvedere): A platinum-finished solid brass collar clip from Fort Belvedere—those high-tension coils keep the tie elevated and centered all day. Classic menswear attention to detail. (FAILED TO SHOW UP FOR THE PHOTO SHOOT BUT ULTIMATELY ALLOWED TO KEEP ITS JOB TODAY).
• Pen — P-002 (Montblanc 149): The flagship Montblanc Meisterstück 149 in black precious resin with platinum trim—the grande dame of fountain pens. The 18K gold nib with rhodium inlay in Extra-Bold delivers wet, confident strokes. Inked with Montblanc Royal Blue for signing off on a successful week.
• Watch — W-003 (Fossil Neutra): The Fossil Neutra chronograph with a light tan sunray dial and Havana brown leather strap—a mid-century-inspired daily driver that anchors the wrist with warm brown tones matching today's earth-tone theme.
• Business Card Case — BCC-002 (Fort Belvedere): The brown and tan bison leather bifold case from Fort Belvedere with silver clasp. The quilted leather back has developed beautiful patina, perfectly complementing today's cashmere-and-cream aesthetic.
• Fragrance — FR-005 (Roberto Ugolini "Loafer"): A woody chypre extrait from Roberto Ugolini that opens with citrus and florals before settling into oakmoss, patchouli, and woods. The Gentleman's Gazette house fragrance designed for tweed, flannel, and textured jackets—and today's cashmere certainly qualifies. Casual but complex.
🏆 Friday Rule Achievement:
  • DS-013 (David Donahue Purple Gingham) — 0 wears since 9/15/25 finally gets its moment! ✨
🎨 Color Story: "Cashmere & Cream"
Beige cashmere, purple gingham, herringbone wool, and warm brown leathers. A Friday outfit that says "I run the boardroom Monday through Thursday, but today I'm coasting in style."
💎 Pattern Mixing Notes:
Three textures working in harmony: the smooth cashmere blazer, small-scale gingham shirt, and herringbone wool trousers. The tie's geometric jacquard adds a fourth element without competing. Classic Gentleman's Gazette layering.
✨ The Cashmere Effect:
There's something about wearing a cashmere blazer on a Friday that just hits different. It's professional enough for any meeting that pops up, luxurious enough to feel like a reward, and soft enough to remind you that the weekend is mere hours away.
Happy Friday, gentlemen. May your weekends be as smooth as cashmere. 🥂
