I’ve always been fascinated by how some color combos that shouldn’t work actually look amazing when done right.
Take this look for example (photo attached):
- Black shirt
- Black trousers
- Brown loafers
- Brown belt
- Brown leather-strap watch
To me, this combo just feels balanced and refined — the brown adds warmth without breaking the black’s clean tone. But when it comes to navy and black, I can’t think of a single outfit where they work this effortlessly.
So what’s the key here? When do brown + black or navy + black work together, and when do they clash? Is it about contrast, texture, or how the tones balance each other?
