As I depart from Colorado on my bus, I have roughly 21 hours of time to reflect and absorb the entirety of the last week. There are so many things to be said, and I will be as brief as possible.
A megalithic thank you to my friends - - & . What a significant group of humble, kind and compassionate people with hearts of pure gold! I owe all of you an insurmountable amount of gratitude for the hospitality and time spent talking to me, and sharing your amazing life with me for a few days. I am extremely proud of each of you! This week was a testament to the power of positivity, patience, self-worth, consistency and, (what I learned the most of) perspective. 21 hours on a bus was rough, but seeing Cary's smiling face after arriving in Denver overflowing with happiness and support helped me appreciation the experience even more.
Although I lost my phone three days before I had to leave and lost the gemstone out of a ring I bought as a keepsake for the trip, I am profoundly proud of the way I reacted. I stayed positive, I put in maximum effort to find it, and learned that at some point, I had to pivot and purchase the new phone. I was only mildly irritated, not livid or become aggressively critical and disappointed in myself. Losing the gemstone did get me choked up a little bit, but i realized quickly that being mad or upset did nothing except make me feel horrible.
That is huge.
Through perspective, I realized how this is a pattern for me. I then somehow came to my senses. "What if I put my phone away in a pocket with a zipper the moment I stopped using it? What if before I leave or go anywhere, I check for my phone, keys and wallet? What if I only wear my favorite ring for special occasions?"
I feel like the answers were always there, I had just always threw in the towel before I gave myself the chance to throw in the perspective.
So as I go home hoping no one will cause too much of a ruckus on the bus, I know that in the moment, I can always use perspective to change any situation I encounter into a learning experience and a victory.
