Cliff NOTES - the supply list
Get your supplies ready. If you want personal help, book HERE.
Here is what I will be teaching with. I have used these colors teaching MANY students already and they work VERY well for people who have never used oils before:
** NOTHING IS MANDATORY - feel free to substitute or improvise.
Titanium White (W)
Cadmium Lemon (CL)
Yellow Ochre (YO)
Burnt Sienna (BS)
Alizarin Crimson (AC)
Magenta (M)
Viridian (V)
French Ultramarine (FU)
Ivory Black (IB)
BRAND? I teach with Winsor Newton WINTON paints. They are a student grade but they really have great pigment strength and are affordable.
Mixing palette (to mix paint on)
Brushes
1 detail brush, 1 filbert (4 or 6), 3/8” chisel, 1/2” blending)
Palette knife size 22ish
8” x 10” gesso’d (in neutral grey) painting panel (AKA Canvas) I HATE TRADITIONAL LINEN CANVAS! I paint on aluminum panels. They are Archival (they last forever) and my detailed brush strokes do not get lost in the tooth (texture) of the material. I will do a special post about this.
Odorless Mineral spirits
Old towel
You might notice that there is no medium here (like walnut oil). I rarely use medium. If your paints are fresh, they don’t need it and they just seem to complicate drying.
Or, you can affordably buy it HERE.
If you have ANY questions, book a 1:1 HERE. This topic can be so long and others can learn from your questions. Brand, size, other products, this is where that goes.
