Coffee (Interview prep) is happening in 3 days
Hey guys and gals! 👊🔥
I’m feeling grateful today. Seeing this community grow, watching you guys show up to the events, ask questions, share station visits and help each other out has been pretty damn cool. So I want to give away a FREE 1 hour 1 on 1 with me. But I want you to earn it by helping make this community better. 🔥 Here’s the challenge: Sometime today, make a post in the community that brings VALUE to another recruit. Maybe it’s a station visit you recently did. An interview question you were asked. A department you found that’s hiring. Your Biddle or CPAT time and what you learned. Something you learned at one of our events. Or even a question you’re struggling with that could start a good conversation. I’ll go through the posts and pick someone for a FREE 1 hour 1 on 1. We can work on whatever YOU need. Interview prep, resume, fitness, station visits, your testing process, career direction. Whatever is going to help move you forward. And because I appreciate everyone who supports OYS, I’m also going to give a FREE 1 on 1 to the first person who grabs an OYS shirt today. 👊 I appreciate you guys more than you know. YOU GO, WE GO. 🔥
Hey guys and gals! 👊🔥
Interview Tip
During the OYS event in Laguna Hills on July 20th, something important that I took from the mock interview portion at the end was the importance of wording your responses. As I am just beginning EMT school, I did not have much certifications to list to explain why I was qualified for the job. I began to list my different skills and experiences that I’ve accumulated so far, to then tie it back to how it fits with the fire service. It could be something as simple as playing a sport or working in a group setting, but they key point is to explain how it fits with the fire service with reasons such as collectively working together as a team to achieve a common goal on a structure fire call. This is a tip I’ve heard from different people that can be very helpful with getting the most amount of points during an oral interview.
🔥 FRIDAY RECAP 🔥
Alright crew, how did the week go? Before we head into the weekend, let’s hear some wins. Big or small, it all counts. What was your biggest goal or accomplishment this week? Did you: 👨‍🚒 Do a station visit? 📝 Apply for an Ambulance Operator position or Fire Department? 🚑 Pass your EMT exam? 🔥 Finish a Fire Academy? 🎤 Have an interview? 💪 Hit a new fitness goal or improve your CPAT or Biddle time? 📚 Knock out a class, certification, or something else that moves you one step closer? Or maybe this just wasn’t your week. That’s okay too. What did you struggle with and what are you going to do differently next week? Drop your wins, lessons, and goals below. 👇 Someone in this community might be working toward the exact same thing you are. 🔥 WANT TO REP OWN YOUR SHIFT? If this community has helped you in any way, I’d be honored to see you rocking an Own Your Shift shirt at the gym, at the station, or just out and about. Use code OYS10 for 10% off. 🔥 INTERVIEWS ARE 100% PART OF THE PROCESS
First off, HUGE thank you to everyone who showed up yesterday and participated. We had a great turnout and I hope you walked away with a better understanding of your physical fitness, where you currently stand, and what you need to work on. If you need help with your fitness, we have programming available right here in the Classroom. If you want something more specific to YOU and where you are at, reach out to Will or me and we can get you plugged in. Now let’s talk interviews. I’m uploading our recorded video where we worked with some of our recruits on their interview questions. You can be in the best shape of your life, crush the physical, have all the certifications, and look great on paper. But if you don’t interview well, you can miss out on your dream opportunity with that department. That’s why I keep preaching STATION VISITS. When you visit a station, pay attention. Listen to what they’re telling you. Ask questions. A lot of the things they talk about can help you understand what that department values and what may come up during your interview. And then COME BACK HERE and share it with the crew. 🔥 What did you wear? 🔥 What did you bring? 🔥 What questions did they ask you? 🔥 What did you learn? 🔥 What would you do differently next time? Be vulnerable. Share the good and the bad. That’s how this community gets better. YOU GO, WE GO. And if interviews are something you struggle with, schedule a 1 on 1 with us. I’m telling you this from experience. It took me 7 YEARS to get hired. Yes, during those years I went to a fire academy and paramedic school, but think about how much time and money that took. Some departments have their own academy and may even send you to paramedic school. That alone could save you $20,000 or more. I don’t want you making the same mistakes I made, or that thousands of other candidates have made, and spending years trying to figure this process out on your own. Use the resources. Use the community. Ask questions. Prepare yourself.
