I'm getting sick of genre worship, I never listened to only one genre of music alone. I've had periods of favorites, but, between when and where I grew up, I listened a lot of different music. One of my favorite things to do as a kid was to play guitar over all different types of music, everything from techno, to bubble gum pop, to gangsta rap, to jazz, to blues, to country, to classical, to rock and metal, and even dubstep. For no other reason than pure enjoyment.
I think if your that loyal to a single genre, your just missing out on a lot of stuff that could expand your playing to new levels. There was a time when old people turned their noses up at jazz, then at Blues, and then at Rock and Roll. I can't believe how little we've actually progressed since then. Whenever some old person says "music was better in my day", I say " No it wasn't, you were just younger".
