The Loop Nobody Told You About 🌿
Midweek check in, and I want to slow down on why this anchor thing actually works, because it's not just a nice little exercise.
Your body needs something real to hold onto, not just an idea. When things get overwhelming, your mind can tell you to calm down all day long and it won't do much, because calm isn't a thought, it's a body state. An anchor works because it's physical, a texture, a scent, a sound, something you can actually notice right now. Your body picks up on that and your nervous system responds to it directly, you don't have to think your way there.
That's the loop we talked about on Monday. Your brain and body are constantly feeding back into each other, what your body senses shapes how you feel, and how you feel shapes your body right back. One small sensory cue can shift that whole loop.
And here's why you choose your anchor ahead of time, not in the moment. In the middle of a hard moment, you don't have the capacity to figure out what might help, you're already stretched thin. But if you've already decided it's a certain candle, or a song, or a smooth stone in your pocket, it's just there, ready to reach for the second things start to feel like too much.
👇🌿 Tell me in the comments, have you picked your anchor yet, and if you've tried it, what did your body notice first?
