Tip: How to set up BlackHole to easily import reference tracks into Logic Pro from any audio app
Hi Gang, I had posted this tip about a year ago in the older community platform; thought I'd re-post here in the new one so it's not lost. (And as I clearly state in the doc, ** under no circumstances should this or any other app be used to bypass digital protection schemes for monetary purposes, or to avoid paying music creators and distributors their fair share! Besides being illegal, it’s bad karma. ** ) -------- As part of my MP 101 coursework, I was looking for reference tracks for "Panic". I found some good suggestions here in the community, but when I went to import them from Apple Music into Logic Pro, I ran into a stumbling block: the files are protected (m4p) and thus can't be easily imported. Long story short, I figured out how to use the free BlackHole "virtual wire" app to work around this limitation. Now I can easily find and import reference tracks without wasting nearly as much valuable time. :) I put together this cheat sheet which documents how to do it. I hope you find it useful! Cheers, Steve

Solution to the Chaotica Eyeball
I have been using a Chaotica Eyeball on my Shure SM7B for a vocal Mic but I've recently been gifted a UA DLX Sphere Modeling Mic. Caleb mentioned not Liking the Sound dampening of the Chaotica Eyeball. Does Any one have any recommendations they'd like to throw at me.
Mixing with headphones
I end up creating a quick mix of tracks for my students and often with headphones, but when I listen back in the car, it's just not the best. (sigh). Please give me any advice possible from the type of headphones I should use to any tricks with the volume balance. I have 3 different headphones, Sony MDR-7506, DT770pro80d7 and HD280Pro.
Noise!
Just thought I'd post about actual noise. Depending on who you talk to, noise types are about more than coloration, its the actual types of randomness that define them. Brownian noise is the most interesting to me, its randomness is a sort of fractal function, from what I understand. I feel like not all noise generators respect this, some just eq some noise and call it a color. I think an indication of this is when its called just red or brown noise. Anyhow, heres a fun little generator toy that I think does it right. Not a plugin, just a web page you can play with. It does export clips for you if you so desire. Sufficient for dropping into a wavetable, for instance. https://29a.ch/noise-generator/ This guy has all sorts of other interesting experiments on his page; some audio, some not. There's a good exploration of impulse response, and lots more. If you are interested in the code behind the noise generators he publishes simplex noise, and there is another example here https://github.com/johnfmcrae/NoiseGenerator Another online web-app type example is this one https://www.audiocutter.org/noise-generator
