Don't Sweat the Small Stuff ... reading stuff with Mila 15/100
📖 Book Don't Sweat the Small Stuff … and It's All Small Stuff by Richard Carlson, PhD. Synopsis: Simple ways to keep little things from taking over your life. The book consists of 100 short articles -- we'll go through them week by week. This week’s # 15: Be the First One to Act Loving or Reach Out Here's what you need to do: 1. Read it yourself, take time to reflect on it and make notes. 2. Join the live reading on Wednesday. We'll read and listen to the article together, line by line. 3. Share your thoughts. Keep your answer under 4 minutes. Be clear, and focus on expressing your ideas about the topic to practice real English speaking. No debates, just sharing thoughts. So many of us hold on to little resentments that may have stemmed from an argument, a misunderstanding, the way we were raised, or some other painful event. Stubbornly, we wait for someone else to reach out to us -- believing this is the only way we can forgive or rekindle a friendship or family relationship. An acquaintance of mine, whose health isn't very good, recently told me that she hasn't spoken to her son in almost three years. "Why not?" I asked. She said that she and her son had had a disagreement about his wife and that she wouldn't speak to him again unless he called first. When I suggested that she be the one to reach out, she resisted initially and said, "I can't do that. He's the one who should apologize." She was literally willing to die before reaching out to her only son. After a little gentle encouragement, however, she did decide to be the first one to reach out. To her amazement, her son was grateful for her willingness to call and offered an apology of his own. As is usually the case when someone takes the chance and reaches out, everyone wins. Whenever we hold on to our anger, we turn "small stuff" into really "big stuff" in our minds. We start to believe that our positions are more important than our happiness. They are not. If you want to be a more peaceful person you must understand that being right is almost never more important than allowing yourself to be happy. The way to be happy is to let go, and reach out. Let other people be right. This doesn't mean that you're wrong. Everything will be fine. You'll experience the peace of letting go, as well as the joy of letting others be right. You'll also notice that, as you reach out and let others be "right," they will become less defensive and more loving toward you. They might even reach back. But, if for some reason they don't, that's okay too. You'll have the inner satisfaction of knowing that you have done your part to create a more loving world, and certainly you'll be more peaceful yourself.

Short Story
It’s been a while, right? Here’s a short story so y’all can practice reading, maybe learn a couple of new words, or just chill and enjoy it. Back in Motion It had been a while, and Ethan could feel it—that restless feeling that shows up when life gets a little too predictable. He stood on an old train platform, holding a beat-up map he couldn’t even remember getting. A few people laughed when they saw it and joked that chasing some made-up place would turn him into a laughing stok, but when the train finally rolled in, hissing and shaking like it had a personality, Ethan jumped on without overthinking it. On the train, he met Clara and Lucas, total strangers who somehow felt familiar. As the ride went on, the scenery stopped making sense—forests flew by, mountains got steeper, and the tracks crossed bridges that definitely weren’t on Google Maps. They were dropped off in a quiet valley glowing under the moon, where phones lost signal and compasses went crazy. Instead of turning back, they shrugged, laughed it off, and followed the map, choosing curiosity over comfort. By morning, they reached the top and realized the whole trip wasn’t about finding treasure at all. The view was massive, peaceful, and oddly motivating, like a reset button for the soul. The map fell apart in Ethan’s hands, and no one even cared. They sat there, tired and smiling, knowing that being a laughing stok would’ve been way better than staying stuck and never taking the chance. It really had been a while—and it felt good to be back in motion.
