Dragon Boat Festival
Dragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It originates from the memory of Qu Yuan, a loyal ancient poet. Heartbroken by his country’s fate, he drowned himself in the Miluo River. Locals rowed boats to search for him and threw rice dumplings into water to keep fish from eating his body.
People celebrate it with many traditions. They hold exciting dragon boat races. They make and eat zongzi, sticky rice wrapped in leaves. Families hang mugwort and calamus at doors to drive away bad luck. They also wear fragrant sachets and take herbal baths for good health. We greet each other with wishes of peace and wellness instead of simply "happy festival".
