Twisting and Moving.
Recently, I have been making sure that squating is an important part of my routine. I don't lift heavy back squats much. Sometimes I will use my son as the weight. (60lbs) However, most of the time when we are squating our spine is locked in and this creates a situation that, if you are not twisting and moving, you may risk injury. Many people who only lift weights move in a very rigid, not fluid way. This is not how I want to move. I want to be able to move fluidly for a lifetime. This is a big reason why I will do twisting motions regularly. Las night when I couldn't sleep, I didsome stretching and twisting made me feel like I could relax enough to get back to sleep. I hope you are having a great day. What type of twisting do you do?

Time for some squats.
Why squats? Leg strength and stability are incredibly important for long-term mobility.. Don't have a gym. Squat without weight. Don't want to do full range of motion squats. Don't have much time. Do what I do. Middle third/middle half squats. Really any squats will do. Video coming soon…

Boring
I heard a really interesting point the other day. The difference between good at something and great at something lies in the willingness to do the boring, basic, fundamentals within the given field. This is great news for the people who are overwhelmed by all that getting fit entails. The reality is not that you need to do anything wild or anything that it takes years to master. What it does mean is that getting started is more than half of the battle. Being willing to stick with the boring, and doing so consistently over time will produce better results than doing most of what the fitness influencers are doing. What boring thing are you willing to do today to keep you on track for life-long movement? For me: 1- 100 body weight shifts 2- 10 get ups (literally going all the way to the ground and then getting all the way to my feet) 3- I'm going to do more but these boring things will help me keep my foundation.

Get Moving
I have been absent for a little bit on here and want to appologize. Trying to come up with a new way to make this stuff fun is my goal and to be honest, if it is not fun for you it isn't. I have spent the greater portion of my life wanting to be a help to those around me and be an advocate for movement. I personally want to be a lifelong mover. This means that I want to be able to do all the things and not just put myself in a box as this type of mover. The more I study it the more I find that the basic stuff is the most impactful on overall health and longevity. I have been using Kettle Bells for the past month and would love to get into swinging and tossing them like some of the kettle bell jugglers. However, while I dive deeper into these skills, the more I find that all of the people that do the advanced stuff advocate basic movements strongly. So, with that in mind. Move. It doesn't matter if you have any of the fancy equipment, or even have the skills that you desire right now. Just get moving, how you want to move, and be ok with normal, basic, standard stuff. It all leads to you looking and feeling your best.
