US is building a new global alliance
The administration of Donald Trump is building a new alliance to counter emergent threats and influence from repressionist regimes. The administration has signaled that many of our cold war allies have lost their way. This was called out in a speech by JD Vance about 1 month after the beginning of President Trumps second term. On 14 February 2025, U.S. vice president JD Vance delivered a speech at the 61st Munich Security Conference. In his speech, Vance argued that Europe's principal danger came from erosion of democratic norms — especially censorship, suppression of dissent, and exclusion of populist voices — rather than threats from Russia or China. He criticized European Union leaders for actions such as annulling Romania's presidential election under claims of foreign interference and using "misinformation" laws to silence political opposition and using "misinformation" laws to silence political opposition. Vance warned that the U.S. would condition its support for Europe on whether its governments actually uphold free speech, press freedom, and political legitimacy. The administration has also been critical of the immigration policies of many European countries. “Europe, they want to be politically correct, and it makes them weak,” Trump said. “Europe is a different place. If that keeps going the way it’s going, in my opinion, many of those countries will not be viable countries any longer,” Trump said. “Their immigration policy is a disaster.” The administration has also been critical of allies that have not been spending appropriate amounts on defense. In many cases these countries have been too comfortable spending so little on defense because they are allied to the US and feel secure that the US will defend them. While spending too little on defense many of these countries have instead been spending the money on social programs, financing these programs on the back of US taxpayers. As the leader of the free world the president has been reversing similar censorship and immigration programs implemented under the Biden administration and has called on our allies to do the same. The ones that respond are welcome to join us in a new global alliance that will stand against tyrants and repression.
The US is also reaching out to help victim of some of the most repressive regimes in the world. They are reaching out to help people that are crying out for help. Venezuela was the first example of this. The people there are poor and starving. The regime has manipulated the results of several elections and ignored the results when they lost them in spite of the manipulation. When people would try to protest the manipulation of elections the regime would turn the military and armed gangs on the protestors. Donald Trump responded by sending special forces to raid Maduro's bunker to arrest him and his wife. They let his vice president take power and have been pressuring her to stabilize the country and hold elections. Venezuela opposition leader has now said she sees eventual elections. The US strategy has been to remove the main oppressor so the people of Venezuela can choose a new path forward. The US is offering a path of economic cooperation if the people choose the path of freedom. The result they are hoping for is a powerful ally in Venezuela. It appears a similar approach is being taken with Iran. We want to give the people the opportunity to be free, but do not want to install a government of our preference. Pressure is also being put on Cuba to allow their people to be free. Cuba could be next.
Why Venezuela, Iran, and Cuba? The people there are crying out for freedom. The people have shown how much they want it by shedding their blood. Immigrants that have fled these countries oppression have typically immigrated legally and been model citizens. They are among the most vocal opponents of socialism and repression. We are hopeful the people in those countries will choose freedom and be powerful allies of the US against repression around the world.
The call has gone out to the countries in the EU. The call is going out to Venezuela, Iran, and soon to Cuba. The call is going out to the whole world. Who wants to form an alliance with the United States to stand against tyranny and oppression? Israel has been standing with the US. Who wants to join us? We don't claim to be perfect. But we will do our best to uphold the values of human rights and freedom. Stand with us and we will work with you to rebuild your economies. You can be a strong and prosperous country and the cause is a noble one.
