In Persian there is a phrase that goes "ferestadamesh kooche ali chap". It translates to "I sent him to leftist Ali's street".
This phrase is used when you want to distract someone from a main topic. For example, you and your spouse are talking about something important and your child walks in. You tell your child to go see if the phone is ringing. You sent your child to leftist Ali's street. Meaning you sent him away on a false premise to distract him.
I find it interesting how some old persian phrases have more clear meanings in politics now. Today leftists are still being used as distractions, earning themselves the term useful idiots.
