I was supposed to drive to Chicago yesterday to celebrate my wife’s grandmother’s 90th birthday. But I got sick, so sick that even though I kept pushing, my body said, "Rest."
While starting the drive, I asked myself what would i tell my friends to do, and immediately it was, "go home and rest. Killing yourself doesn't show support or loyalty."
I even called a friend to help me make the decision, because I thought, as long as I just got there. And in that moment, I realized, choosing myself was the greatest act of love I could offer.
The hardest decisions, sometimes, are the ones that let us heal. Rest is not weakness; it is the foundation for everything we do. So today, I choose rest, and I know tomorrow, I’ll be stronger.
If you’re ever on the edge of a hard decision, choose yourself first, because your wellness is supports everything you do.
