Ethan
Hello everybody, my name is Ethan Van Beek and I am a Junior kicker/Punter at Laconia High School in Rosendale, Wisconsin. I used to play soccer when I was little and then I decided to give football a try in the 8th grade. My school never really had a kicker before so I was new to the coaches just like this whole kicking a football thing was new to me. I made varsity my freshman year in high school as a kicker and had a decent season that year. That next summer, I went to a few kicking camps to try and improve on my technique. One thing I struggled with during my freshman season was making kicks, specifically field goals as I went 0-4 on them. I went 30-31 on extra points and my kickoffs were pretty consistent as well. Maybe landing between the 10 and the 5 yard line for the most part. But anyways, it still never hurts to get better and improve on the things that I needed to improve on. I went to Mike Farley's Kickers Camp a few times that summer and I believed I learned a lot of kicking things that would be useful. I also learned to punt which I never really have done a whole lot so that was really neat. My sophomore year of high school I improved big time. I made more field goals and had a few touchbacks as well on kickoffs. I even won the Punter job so that was cool too. That next summer, I went to a few more kicking camps. I'm glad I did because I just feel like I am getting better and better as a kicker and Punter. As of right now, my school is going into our 4th game of the year and I believe we are in a good spot.
I wish the best of luck to all of the specialists out there. I hope you guys are all having a great season so far! And also remember to keep working hard, it will pay off!
