The other day, I came across a Facebook post from a smaller creator who was celebrating a milestone. She had published a children's book on Amazon KDP and was excited to share that she had made 𝟮𝟱 𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗦! 🎉
Something that should have been celebrated quickly turned UGLY. People started ATTACKING her in the comments, calling her work "AI slop," threatening to report her book to Amazon, and trying to tear down what should have been a proud moment. And for what? Because she used AI to help create her book?
Thankfully, this creator was handling the situation with CLASS. She wasn't engaging with the bullies or feeding into the negativity. I don't personally know this woman, but I'm not blind to what's happening. And I can only imagine how frustrating it must feel to share something you're proud of, only to have strangers try to destroy your excitement.

I think there's a HUGE misunderstanding about AI-generated content and Amazon's publishing policies. Amazon DOES allow AI-generated content, provided it follows their content guidelines.
And here's something a lot of the people screaming about AI don't even realize... 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗔𝗜-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱. What Amazon DOES require is that you disclose AI-generated text, images, or translations during the KDP publishing process. That includes AI-generated cover art and interior illustrations.
There's also a distinction between AI-generated and AI-assisted content. Amazon does not require disclosure when AI was only used to assist with things like brainstorming, editing, or proofreading your own work. The important thing is to follow Amazon's rules, be truthful in your disclosures, respect intellectual property rights, and create books that provide value to your readers.

Whether you're creating children's books, coloring books, journals, workbooks, or full-length novels, you need to understand something... Not everyone is going to be nice about what you're building.
Some people will criticize your artwork. Some will criticize your writing. Some will criticize your use of AI. And some people will simply have a problem with the fact that you're actually DOING something and seeing results.
You could spend six months hand-drawing every illustration, and I promise you, someone on the internet would STILL find something to complain about. You cannot build your creative journey around trying to make everyone happy.

Twenty-five sales might not sound like much to someone selling thousands of books, but to a new author? 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗔 𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗟! 👏 That's 25 sales worth celebrating!
And instead of encouraging someone who's getting started, people were trying to make her feel ashamed of her accomplishment.
We need more creators supporting creators. You don't have to like AI artwork. You don't have to buy AI-generated books. You're absolutely entitled to your opinions. But there's a BIG difference between having an opinion and actively harassing someone because you don't agree with how they created something.
💡 𝗣𝗥𝗢 𝗧𝗜𝗣: 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡 𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗡 𝗡𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗢 𝗙𝗨𝗘𝗟.
One thing I've learned as a creator is that sometimes negative attention can actually work in your favor. People LOVE to argue on the internet, and unfortunately, those arguments can generate more comments, shares, views, and exposure.
You might have 10 people criticizing your work, but another 20 defending you. And suddenly, your content is reaching people who never would have discovered it otherwise. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝗮𝗱 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆.
Now, I'm not suggesting you should invite negativity or tolerate harassment. Delete, block, and report people when necessary. But don't automatically assume that a handful of loud critics means your work is failing. Sometimes that extra attention introduces your book to the exact audience who WILL appreciate it.

KEEP CREATING. KEEP PUBLISHING. KEEP CELEBRATING YOUR WINS.
Whether you use AI, illustrate your own books, hire an illustrator, or combine different creative tools, take pride in building something of your own. Focus on creating quality work, following the rules, and improving your skills with every book.
Don't give strangers on Facebook the power to determine whether you deserve to call yourself an author.
And if you're one of those people who sees a new creator celebrating their first 10, 25, or 100 sales... 𝗕𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡 𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗠. 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡 𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗠 𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗡. ❤️
Because there's room for more than one person to succeed.
