Participation Pays Dividends
A small Pinterest milestone today — and I think it says something useful about participation. One of my Pins just crossed 1,000 impressions. That matters to me less as a number than as evidence of something I probably would not have done consistently on my own. The Pinterest challenge got me posting. PINSDAY gave me a reason to keep showing up. Seeing what other members were trying gave me ideas. And repeated participation turned “I should probably use Pinterest someday” into an actual habit. That is one of the things I value most about this community. Sometimes the biggest benefit is not the lesson itself. It is the structure, accountability, encouragement, and a little social pressure that get us actually to use what we learn. So thank you, Krista, and thank you to everyone who has shared Pins, ideas, feedback, and encouragement along the way. Participation turns intention into evidence. 📌 https://www.pinterest.com/pin/701857923221506161/

Amazon.com, PenOdyssey.com, 9 author pages (pen names), 72 book pages, and my one Spookmaster video created in class. I've been creating Pinterest Pins aggressively for just under 60 Days: Impressions 9.54k, Engagements 493, Outbound clicks 90, Saves 137, Total audience 4.15k, Engaged audience 130. I don't know about sales, if any... but I'm playing the long game. Pins last forever. Also, I tried ads, and without reviews, it was a waste of money. Krista's suggestion for 20 reviews before advertising makes sense to me. Posting to social media also didn't work for me.

@Conrad Deas Reminds me of the famous legend of the "Little Dutch Boy" (often referred to as "The Hero of Haarlem"), who saves his town from flooding by plugging a leaking dike (or dam) with his finger.
Sell Your Books OFFLINE! 💰
Holiday shopping season is about to kick into high gear, and one thing I want to remind you of is that 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀! People LOVE supporting small businesses, especially during the holidays. And if you're a self-published author, this could be a great opportunity to get your books into the hands of local shoppers. One of my favorite things about self-publishing with Amazon KDP is that you can order 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁! Depending on your book's size, page count, and printing specifications, you might pay as little as $3–$5 per book. Now imagine taking those books to a local craft fair, holiday market, book signing, or community event and selling them for $20 each. That's potentially $𝟭𝟱–$𝟭𝟳 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘀, 𝘁𝗮𝘅𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀! And here's another reason I LOVE this business model: 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗢 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗞𝗗𝗣 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗲𝘀! You don't have to invest thousands of dollars ordering hundreds of books and hoping they sell. You can start small, test the demand, and order more as needed. Think about all the opportunities around you this holiday season. Children's books make wonderful gifts, coloring books are great stocking stuffers, and even nonfiction books can be positioned as thoughtful gifts for the right audience. Remember, Amazon is just ONE way to sell your books. As a self-published author, you're building a business, and sometimes your next customer isn't searching on Amazon. They're walking through a local holiday market looking for something special! 💬 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿, 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁? 𝗢𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻? Let's hear your thoughts! 👇

@Krista Brea Your post has me thinking about trying almost the opposite holiday experiment. :-) With the size of my Pen Odyssey catalog, I’m increasingly less interested in making every reader encounter produce an immediate sale and more interested in helping people find books they might actually enjoy. So I’m thinking of testing a Pen Odyssey Holiday Book Gift here first: 🎁 Choose up to three Pen Odyssey books www.penodyssey.com , and I’ll send them to you FREE in EPUB format as my holiday gift. No purchase required. No review required. No strings attached. If you’re in Skool, just DM me with the three titles you’d like. My thinking is simple: I’m not trying to maximize the revenue from those three books. I’m trying to maximize the chance that you’ll come back someday looking for a fourth. With a catalog this large, I can afford to run that experiment. :-) Small-print publishing reality: A few titles may still be enrolled in KDP Select, which temporarily prevents me from distributing the EPUB directly. If you choose one of those, I’ll let you know and send it to you as soon as its Select commitment ends. It just may arrive after the holidays.
Share Anything Friday
Share whatever you’re working on or proud of right now. This community is full of creators, authors, and entrepreneurs, and sometimes the best thing we can do is help each other get a little more visibility. 💡 IDEAS ON WHAT YOU COULD SHARE: • Yourself and what you do • Your Skool community • A book you're writing or recently published • A project you're building • A shoutout to another member • A video, post, or resource • Affiliate links \(yes, those are allowed\) The goal is simple: help our members get seen. Just one request so this stays valuable for everyone. 👉 1 RULE: If you share something, please also leave a thoughtful or helpful comment on someone else’s post. Support goes both ways, and when we all participate, the whole community benefits. Now let’s see what everyone is building 👇

@Tom Schoenfeld Potato is cute but has three syllables. Lol. Mr. Potato Head was released in the same year I was born. And my favorite food is lokše. An indispensable part of the Slovak kitchen is lokše (lokše, lokša singular). They are thin pancakes made from potato dough, baked on a hot plate or an ungreased frying pan. They are kind of like Slovak tortillas. You'll find these on any Christmas table! I can hardly wait. Norwegians have a similar item called Lefse. But truthfully, using my personal rules for naming family... Sampson would become "Sam" or "Ham," depending on behavior in the moment. :-) I believe that we shorten the names of loved ones to the fewest syllables possible. My son, John Paul, is "J." and my daughter, Michelle, is "shell." But only to me.

@Dian Harper Droopy has a wonderfully simple premise — a little dragon who wants a friend but sneezes fire whenever he gets nervous. 🔥🤧🐉 That immediately gives children something funny to picture, while underneath it you have a very gentle message about loneliness, difference, acceptance, and friendship. I especially like Finn being a fish. Pairing a fire-breathing dragon with a little aquatic friend feels both unexpected and somehow exactly right. :-) Congratulations on Droopy Dragon Makes a Friend. I can easily imagine this being a very enjoyable read-aloud.
