👅 Why we look at our tongue in Ayurveda
The tongue offers a little window into what's happening inside our body. In Ayurveda, we examine its colour, coating, shape and texture for information about our digestive fire (Agni), accumulated ama (undigested waste/toxins) and doshic balance. It's one simple way to become more aware of our body's signals in order to recognize patterns before they become bigger imbalances. Take a peak before you tongue scrape in the mornings. This small daily observation offers us the great insight. Take a peak and let us know what you noticed 👇 SHARED FROM FB: White coating, morning breath, a bitter or metallic taste, teeth marks along the edges, cracks down the center, a dry mouth, a red tip, or the feeling that food just sits there? Ayurveda reads all of these in one place: the tongue, which reflects what's happening inside. And waking up like this wears on your mood, which shows on the tongue too. The Charaka Samhita (the classical Ayurvedic text on internal medicine) already called for scraping the tongue daily: residue that builds up at its root causes bad breath and gets in the way of breathing. That coating is ama (what digestion didn't finish processing). It can come from a late dinner or one that was hard to digest. Here's the part that often gets left out: a light coating only at the back is common, even in healthy people. The tongue map: Front: lungs, heart, chest and neck. Center: liver, spleen, stomach and pancreas. Back: small intestine, colon and kidneys. What each sign points to: 📌 White coating all over: ama throughout digestion. 📌 Coating at the back: residue in the colon. 📌 Teeth marks along the edges: long-standing malabsorption. 📌 Cracks: chronic dryness in the colon. 📌 Dry tongue: dehydration, anxiety or fear. 📌 Red tip: a sign of heat. 📌 Bitter or metallic taste: excess heat. 📌 Bad breath or food that sits: last night's dinner, undigested. The tongue alone can't give a complete diagnosis. It's one of Ayurveda's eight pariksha (methods of examination), along with pulse, urine, stool, voice, touch, eyes and body form.

Ancient wisdom, modern neuroscience and one powerful sound. 🕉️
https://www.instagram.com/reel/Ddd-1_tBhOx/?stkn=MWwzMHE5NTNqbXVxbw== For thousands of years, yogic traditions have used AUM (OM) as a sacred vibration. Neuroscience is beginning to give us a glimpse into why this practice feels so powerful. In fMRI studies, researchers observed that audible OM chanting was associated with reduced activity in several brain regions involved in emotional processing — including the amygdala, along with parts of the anterior cingulate, hippocampus and thalamus. Interestingly, the comparison sound “ssss” did not produce the same pattern. Other research has found changes in autonomic nervous system activity and heart-rate variability following OM chanting, including increased markers associated with parasympathetic activity — the branch of the nervous system involved in rest, recovery and regulation. Additionally, researchers have found altered communication between brain regions involved in emotional processing during OM chanting. So when we talk about feeling the vibration of AUM, we're not necessarily talking about something mystical that has to be taken on faith. There is a measurable interaction between breath, sound, attention, the nervous system and the brain. This is one of the beautiful places where ancient wisdom and modern science meet. Try it yourself: Take a slow breath in. Aaaaaa — Uuuuuu — Mmmmmm Let the sound become softer as you move toward the mmm. Then sit in the silence that follows. Feel the vibration. Notice your breath. Notice your mind. Notice your body. Let us know what you thought 👇

Today’s Family Plan lunch
Simple, filling, nutrient-dense food that doesn’t need to be complicated. 🍠 Sweet potato crackers topped with guacamole + roasted beets 🫘 Refried black beans with rice 🌿 Sautéed spinach One of the beautiful things about pairing beans + rice is how well they complement each other nutritionally. Together, their amino acid profiles provide all nine essential amino acids across the meal — making this a high plant-based protein combination. Black beans bring protein, fibre, iron, magnesium and folate. Organic basmati rice adds carbohydrates (sweet taste) for energy and additional amino acids. Spinach brings folate, iron, magnesium and vitamins A, C + K, while sweet potato, avocado and beets add even more fibre, antioxidants, healthy fats and colourful plant compounds. This is the kind of meal we want our Family Plan families to see more often: whole foods, lots of colour, plenty of fibre, protein + healthy fats = nourishing enough to actually keep you satisfied + satiated (all nutrient requirements met 🙌🥳) Eating well doesn’t have to mean fancy ingredients or complicated recipes. Sometimes it’s just beans, rice, vegetables and a little loving intention.

Constantly overthinking, feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or just ON? 🌀
Constantly overthinking, feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or just ON? 🌀 The quickest way to shift what’s happening in the mind and emotional body are to change what’s happening in the breath and body. Let’s try it together now. 🤍 👃 Nose breathing only: Inhale for 4 1… 2… 3… 4… Exhale for 6 1… 2… 3… 4… 5… 6… Completely emptying the breath. Repeat 3 times for 3 rounds. Notice what happens: 💨Did your shoulders drop? 💨Did your thoughts slow down? 💨Did your body soften? 💨Did you feel a little more present? Your breath is always with you and is one of the simplest tools for shifting your internal state. Start each day with a round, add one in while driving home at lunch, then again before bed. You've now activated your parasympathetic nervous system multiple times and the endless benefits keep stacking up the more you practice 👌 Try 3 rounds of 3 4-in / 6-out and tell us below: what shift did you notice? 👇

Rethink protein:
Shared from facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BJenCsgW5/ In Nicoya, Costa Rica, people have eaten this plate for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for generations. It looks humble. Nutritionally, it’s anything but. Rice and beans, eaten together, form a complete protein: all nine essential amino acids your body can’t make on its own — from two simple plants, no meat required. Now add it up. Fiber from the beans and whole grains. Healthy fats from a few slices of avocado. Slow-digesting complex carbs instead of refined ones. Together they make a meal that helps keep blood sugar steady, keeps you full for hours, and feeds the gut bacteria tied to a longer, healthier life. The Nicoyans call it gallo pinto — “spotted rooster.” I call it one of the best longevity foods on earth. Beans are the cornerstone of every blue zones diet: the people who eat about a cup a day tend to outlive the people who don’t. No supplements. No complicated plan. Just two of the cheapest foods in the world, eaten together — the way the world’s longest-lived people have always done it.
