Do you like reading?
Reading is an awesome activity that we should all do every single day.
Let me explain the top three books I read for mental health.
- The Subtle Art of Not Giving an F**k by Mark Manson.
Now this book, a lot of people say online, "Oh it's such basic advice. Everyone knows this. It's really cookie-cutter advice," but for me it was life-changing.
The principles, the advice, and action steps he talks about in here were totally new to me and really great.
“You should choose the problems you want to suffer for.”
-Mark Manston
This is one of the biggest takeaways for mental health I've got from the book.
Basically what he's saying is that with everything, you will have problems.
For instance with every business model there's a problem with copywriting for example of how AI will probably take it over soon, and you have to deal with that anxious thought, and you have to send out a hundred cold emails a day, to people you probably do not care about.
For the coaching model you, get the same problem, again: doing cold DMs and you may get people that say they're gonna pay then they don't and etc.
You might get bad clients who you can't stand helping but keep working with them as you need the money…
2. The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz.
Love this book.
This is a book on mindset for success and happy positive thinking.
Now in this book David talks about how you should just really believe that you can do anything and if you believe you can, he will find the solution in what you can actually use to achieve your wildest dreams and goals.
This is really good.
Also the way he talks about Mr. Triumph versus Mr. Defeat is a really great concept.
Basically it's like in your mind it's a thought factory and there are two bosses you can choose: you can choose Mr. Defeat or Mr. Triumph.
Mr. Defeat is this negative person who says, "Oh this is a terrible day. Today will be a horrible day. Today business will be bad. On this day you will not feel good."
Mr. Triumph is this really pleasant, wholesome, kind of old-school guy. If you want to picture him, this guy is in a shirt and a tie, real old-school gentleman type.
He's really positive and he says, "If you wake up today will be an awesome day. Today business will be good. Today you can catch up on all your work and life's going to be great."
That's how we should all be.
We should have Mr. Triumph as our thought factory manager and totally fire Mr. Defeat.
- The Mountain is You by Brianna Wiest
To be honest I haven't read this book but I have read quite a big chunk of it.
One of the biggest takeaways I've got from this is how she says that the happiness in life comes from the small joys, such as the cups of coffee on a morning sunrise, and really just these little things like a good book, spending time with a loved one, things of that nature.
It's really good that she says that because it's totally true.
She also mentions why you self-sabotage and how it's a symptom of the real problem, which is always going to be poor mental health or unhealed trauma / a dysregulated nervous system.
Really good takeaways there.
Hope you enjoyed this!
