The "Grass Roots" Work.
I was recently asked about "street therapy" I posted about. That's a term I borrowed from . Up the street about 6 blocks is a business center. DMV branch, liquor store, biker bar, Dollar Tree, 7\11. There is an outside "common area" with steel tables\benches. Going to the Dollar Tree at night, I met a group of people who meet there nightly to talk.
These people have real world problems . A single, alcoholic mom struggling to raise her 15 year old son.....her abusive husband is in prison but gets out soon. Two middle age, long term eatery cooks who are alcoholics, pot addicted, one also gambling addicted. A 40 something man confined to a wheelchair since a surprise stroke in his 20's. A woman who sold everything and moved with her child 2000 miles to live with her fiancee.......who deserted her with nothing after a week. A mid 20's jobless man who lives with his parents who totally disapprove of him, so he drinks and is dangerously impulsive.
Although my life path has been hard, I have had incredible blessings, albeit mixed. Telepath made youth hard, but has saved my life. Horrifically bad family, but made me strong. 67 years of perfect health, eyesight. Decided to be a "chess guy " at 13. Did it as a career and did NOT have to starve as others predicted. I'm materially in the top 5% of my graduating class. All this is NOT bragging. It is explaining why I have so much to be grateful for. Others have not had my good fortune.
I often post how we all "carry a drop of God by whatever name". How "the drop is the ocean and the ocean is the drop," If I were unwilling to try to help these people improve their lives, those posts of mine would just be hollow bullshit....pseudo-spiritual ego. They are not.
One of the groups sees me as a father figure. Another calls me a "psychiatrist". Another person calls me "the smartest mo-fo". Yet another brands me hilarious but true. These different takes are good. I seem to land where they each need me to. Our interaction is causing changes in their lives. This makes me happy. I'm able to give back to those who have not had the gifts the Universe gave me. I could not do less and sleep. That is the "street therapy" and "ground game" I'm working with some fellow drops of God by whatever name. Thanks for reading this far!
