Inner child healing...
Sometimes healing begins with a strange realization:
“I have spent half my life trying not to become like them.”
Not like the parent who was controlling.
Not like the one who criticized everything.
Not like the person who never listened.
Not like the one who made you feel you were never enough.
So you become the opposite.
You become independent.
Understanding. Helpful. Patient.
Successful. Emotionally aware.
You promise yourself: “I will NEVER be like them.”
And then life has the audacity to show you that the story isn't quite finished. 😅
Because what we resist doesn't necessarily disappear. Sometimes it gets buried.
  • The child who learned, “I must never make anyone feel the way I felt,” can grow into an adult who constantly accommodates everyone.
  • The child who was criticized can become an adult who is brutally hard on themselves.
  • The child who experienced control can become obsessed with controlling everything.
  • The child who wasn't heard can become someone who explains themselves endlessly.
And suddenly you realize:
You weren't only trying to heal from what happened.
You were also trying to prove that you were different from the person who hurt you.
That can become another kind of prison.
Inner-child healing isn't about becoming the opposite of them.
It's about becoming free enough that you don't have to organize your life around them anymore.
Because healing isn't: "I will never be like you."
It becomes: "I don't have to spend my life fighting you inside myself."
And yes, we can spend decades cleaning this emotional house.
Some rooms haven't been opened since childhood.
There are boxes labeled shame, fear, anger, not enough, be good, don't disappoint anyone...
And occasionally we open one and think: “Seriously? I was carrying THIS since 1987?” 😂
But perhaps that's the gift of healing.
Not erasing the past. Not pretending it didn't happen.
Not forgiving everything before we're ready.
But finally being able to look at what we learned as children and say: “Thank you for helping me survive. But I don't need this rule anymore.”
The child inside us doesn't need us to keep fighting their battles forever.
Sometimes they simply need to know: The adult is here now.
And we choose differently.
