The moment you've all been waiting for!
31 people voted for me to share my secrets of how I did it... so here you go:
Step 1: Start a community. Duh.
Step 2: Talk to people. Network. Care. Show up every day.
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit.
That's it! Now you have a top 100 Skool community.
Just kidding π
π«Ά That IS what I did in a nutshell.
But let's get more specific...
I joined Skool years ago without knowing anything about it. I just signed up for an online course, watched the course, and forgot Skool existed. Joined a few others over the years, same thing.
Then, in February of this year, I got serious about Skool.
I opened my first community and started dabbling. Didn't care about the fire, didn't show up every day, didn't know the β existed.
It was pretty much just a way to capture leads for my coaching. I brought my local community onto it, but no one really engaged.
Crickets π¦
That is... until I joined Goosify and made it my mission to get the β. Since then, here is everything I did to get into the top 100 that has worked well:
1οΈβ£ I launched a 30-day "Scattered to Focused" challenge in September.
I announced it about 5 days before the start of the month to give people time to prepare - and I told EVERYONE about it. I DM'd every single person in my community. I told people about it at local networking meetups and during game nights with friends. I invited everyone to come join and get a hold of their ADHD and get focused on their goals. About 30 people ended up taking me up on it.
The rules were simple: Pick a goal for September and make a post in the group every single day with a repeat of your goal, a reflection on what you did that day towards the goal and how it went, and a commitment for the ONE thing you were going to do the next day.
I also asked everyone to commit to commenting on each other's posts to root each other on. I actually made them create a post that said:
"I, [Name], commit to posting my progress on the 30-day Scattered to Focused challenge every single day of September to the best of my ability. I commit to sticking to it even if I miss a day here or there, and not to let that discourage me from picking myself up and continuing on!
I also commit to helping create a space of focus, camaraderie, and accountability for everyone in the Focus Founders community by commenting on their posts and cheering them on.
Let's get after it, together!!!!!"
I strongly believe this commitment increased engagement across posts, rather than just people posting and not engaging with others.
This challenge alone created massive movement.
2οΈβ£ I got my 10 regulars by giving a lot of fucks about my members.
People like , , , , , and many others continuously show up and encourage each other day after day because I show up for every single person in my community day after day. I lead by example. People share their struggles? I offer support and encouragement.
People share their wins? I celebrate with them and shout them out.
People are stuck on something? I offer my advice.
The community is just that - A COMMUNITY! It's about being there for the other people around you, who share similar challenges and have similar hopes and dreams. We rise together.
I comment on every single post, I remember people's birthdays, I connect people who I think can help each other, and I make it as fun as possible.
Shit, single-handedly pushed us from position 101 to position 94 in a single day by encouraging everyone to rally while I was sick over the weekend!! She made a GIF battle post and tagged everyone and even DM'd people to get them to engage and join our community. We got 2,300 activities over two days thanks to her efforts! 3οΈβ£ I give a lot of fucks about other communities and their members, too.
I show up not just for my people, but for other people on Skool. Goosify is a perfect example of this; many of the members here have joined and engaged on my community purely because they liked my vibe and I helped them or made them laugh without asking for anything in return.
Are you noticing a pattern here? Show up, have fun, and give without asking for anything!
This is my plan to eventually build a $100k+ per month business here on Skool. That's literally it. (Sure, there will be an offer and business funnels and all that jazz, but that's all additions not the main feature)
4οΈβ£ I made posts that are easy to engage with and encourage people to share about themselves and things they're excited about. Bonus points if it encourages them to tag other people.
For example, my #1 most engaged post of all time was a 2 truths and a lie post which I totally didn't steal from here on Goosify. The #2 post was asking people what they would prefer; more money or more time? (Which I totally didn't steal and post here on Goosify π) The #4 most popular was me shouting out to and tagging every single person who made it past 15 days in the StF challenge in September, calling them out and what they've achieved so far this month. I tagged each person and wrote what they accomplished during the challenge.
Shouting out your people and sharing those wins is HUGE! The more you can brag about how cool your members are, the more special and included they feel, and the more they want to come back and engage.
5οΈβ£ I was patient, consistent, and determined.
There were some days in September that felt like I was sliding backwards. I showed up anyway.
It takes time to build a community. It's built brick-by-brick, comment-by-comment, DM-by-DM. One message at a time. One relationship at a time.
At first, it will feel like you're moving at a snail's pace. Then all of a sudden, you'll hit a surge. Then another lull. Then a fake surge. Then another wall.
This is part of the process.
In a π₯...
Set a goal. Show up every day. Give a fuck. Have fun. Don't let the lull's discourage you.
That's pretty much it! Hope this helps π«Ά
Tagging everyone from my other post so they see this...
