Job 14:14, 15 raises a beautiful question: “If a man dies, can he live again?”
Job then expresses confidence that God would long for the work of His hands and call him back. These verses help us understand both why we can trust the resurrection and what the resurrection is.
How do we know the resurrection will become a reality?
We can be confident because:
1. Jehovah has the power and the desire to bring the dead back.
Job recognized that humans may not be able to reverse death, but Jehovah is not limited by human ability. The Bible describes him as the One who “makes the dead alive.” (Romans 4:17)
2. Jehovah has already demonstrated resurrection power.
The Bible records several people who were brought back to life. These were not just stories of hope; they were examples showing what Jehovah can do. For example, Jesus brought people back to life, proving that resurrection is within God’s ability. (John 11:43, 44)
3. Jesus’ own resurrection guarantees the future resurrection.
Jesus was raised from the dead as the firstfruits, showing that death can be conquered. (1 Corinthians 15:20) His resurrection gives us a solid reason to trust Jehovah’s promise.
