Everyone wants medical device sales. Most people are ignoring the easiest door into it. I sat down with Shawn Mertes to talk about one of the most underrated entry points in medical sales. DME and acute care. Shawn went from respiratory therapist to territory roles, clinical specialist, and now regional sales manager at a smaller distributor. He explains what most candidates do not understand until they are already in the field. A few key takeaways from this conversation: Rental based equipment is a relationship business. Distributors win on service and education, not brand names. This path teaches you how hospitals actually buy.
