Let's analyse ONE word. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Solitary Ask yourself: - What does this word suggest? - Why has Dickens chosen it? - What emotions does it create? - What does it tell us about Scrooge? - Remember... Key Quote: 'As solitary as an oyster.' โญ Grade 4 Response This shows Scrooge is lonely. โญโญ Grade 6 Response Dickens uses the simile 'as solitary as an oyster' to show Scrooge is isolated from society. โญโญโญ Grade 9 Response Dickens presents Scrooge as emotionally isolated through the simile 'as solitary as an oyster'. While oysters appear hard and closed, they can also contain pearls, suggesting Scrooge has the potential to change. Dickens foreshadows his redemption and encourages readers to believe that compassion can transform even the hardest of people. Quick Question: What parts of analysis do you struggle with?
