Thursday Literature Analysis
How Does the Writer Present...? Today's quotation: 'Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under't.' — Macbeth 🔍 Literature Analysis Instead of asking: "What language techniques can I find?" Ask: How does Shakespeare present Lady Macbeth here? Think about: ✔️ Appearance vs reality ✔️ Manipulation ✔️ Deception ✔️ Ambition This immediately keeps your answer focused on the question. 🎯 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 Complete this sentence: Shakespeare presents Lady Macbeth as... Jot your ideas in the comments and I’ll provide feedback like an examiner.

Wednesday Poll  – Which GCSE Question Do You Least Enjoy?
🎓 From the Examiner's Desk
Every summer, I read hundreds of GCSE English papers. One thing surprises me every single year. It isn't that students don't know enough. It's that they often don't show what they know. They identify language techniques but don't explain them. They know quotations but don't answer the question. They understand the text but don't structure their essays clearly. The difference between a Grade 5 and a Grade 8 is often how ideas are communicated, not how much knowledge a student has. That's exactly why our lessons focus on developing writing skills, not simply memorising content. I'd love to know... If you could ask an examiner one question, what would it be?

Tuesday Essay Writing – Write Strong Topic Sentences
Every paragraph should begin by telling the examiner exactly what you're going to argue. This is called your topic sentence. 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲: ❌ Shakespeare presents Macbeth through lots of language techniques. ✅ Shakespeare presents Macbeth as increasingly consumed by ambition, leading him towards his tragic downfall. The examiner immediately understands your argument. 🎯 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 Write a topic sentence for this question: How does Priestley present responsibility in An Inspector Calls? Keep it to one sentence. I would love to hear your ideas and I’ll mark it as I do with the exams in the summer. Show me what you have got! 🙂
