Shadowing
If your loved one follows you everywhere… you’re not imagining it.
This is called shadowing.
It can feel frustrating—or even suffocating at times.
But underneath it is something important:
They are trying to feel safe.
As memory fades, you become their anchor in a confusing world.
So when you leave the room, it can trigger anxiety.
A small shift that can help:
Instead of saying “I’ll be right back,"
try: “I’m going into the kitchen. You’re safe. I’ll come get you.”
Clear + reassuring.
Have you experienced this?
